You get the excellent Curro education

We are committed to providing learners with an excellent education. That is why our approach to teaching the national CAPS curriculum is based on project-based learning and self-discovery. This approach allows our high school learners to explore the learning material beyond just the textbook through research, experiments and assignments, while preparing them for the IEB exams in Grade 12. This teaches learners to take initiative and make connections between pieces of knowledge – which further develops critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.

As part of the Curro school group, learners enjoy preference when applying to us from any school in the group. There are several nearby schools with primary school phases whose children can easily progress to us. These include Curro Midrand, Curro Rivonia, Curro Thatchfield, Northriding College, and The King’s School Linbro Park.

What happens in Grade 8 to Grade 12

Our senior phase starts by helping learners grow accustomed to the greater workload of higher intensity in high school. They also receive guidance when choosing their elective subjects at the end of Grade 9.

From Grade 10, we prepare learners for the IEB exams in Grade 12. We focus on more than just assessments, though, by applying the work to real-life situations. This helps learners to understand the work much better, and further empowers them with knowledge and skills to become the leaders of the future.

Teaching takes place in English, and learners can choose Afrikaans and isiZulu as additional language options.

A wider subject choice

Our learners can choose elective subjects beyond what is offered at our school. These subjects take place digitally and are presented live by Curro teachers. Lessons are scheduled during the school day, with supervised self-directed sessions after hours. These subjects can be seen as an extension of the excellent Curro education your child gets with us, and they still write the IEB exam at the end of Grade 12.

More than academics

As part of the Curro school group, we believe that a good education goes beyond just academics – real-life skills, emotional well-being and physical health is just as important. This is why we offer a variety of programmes that broaden learners’ horizons to a wide range of areas – at no additional cost!

These programmes include the following:

  • Career guidance
  • Homework sessions after school
  • Leadership programmes
  • Subject choice assessments

We also have an in-house therapist whose services are enlisted when a teacher notices that a learner may be facing a particular challenge. The therapist would then contact you to schedule a session. The basic assessments are included in the school fees, although more intense intervention might not be.

Furthermore, we have two annual international tours that broad learners’ understanding of their academics. Our History learners take a tour to Italy, while Programming and IT learners tour to Silicon Valley, USA. Also, our Mandarin language club hosts events where they collaborate with learners in China.

Activities your child can enjoy

One part of the excellent Curro education, is that academics are balanced with sports and cultural activities. Participation in activities promote team-awareness, collaboration, and self-confidence. Our focused variety of activities, such as drone flying and photography, are tailored to the interests of learners in our area. Your child is sure to find something that will pique their interest.
