Curro Rivonia Primary School
Curro Rivonia is an independent school in Rivonia, Sandton, that provides high-quality education to learners from Grade R to Grade 7. With small class sizes, dedicated teachers, and an enhanced curriculum, we empower learners with 21st-century skills and knowledge grow into high-performing, self-confident individuals who are ready to become the leaders of the future. Our learners even use electronic methods of submitting assignments and may choose to use tablets in class.
Foundation phase: Grade R to Grade 3
Our foundation phase starts by providing the emotional and intellectual foundation required to handle the formal learning that starts in Grade 1. We then gradually develop learners’ skills and knowledge in basic areas such as language (comprehension, speaking, and listening), mathematics (counting and understanding numbers), and creative problem-solving in an environment where they enjoy coming to school. Learners at Curro Rivonia further benefit from specialised developmental offerings such as music, Robotics, and other STEAMD activities. Afrikaans and isiZulu are offered as additional language options and are presented by language specialists.
More than just academics
At Curro Rivonia, we believe that physical development forms an important part of young learners’ education. Therefore, learners up to Grade 2 are introduced to our various sports activities as part of their timetable. Thereby, they are comfortable with the rules and gameplay of seasonal sports and can make an informed choice of sports activity from Grade 3 onwards.
Intermediate phase: Grade 4 to Grade 7
In these grades, learners are taught to work with the learned material in an abstract manner. The nature of the content gradually builds from being tangible and real, to more intellectual and abstract. Our small class sizes and enhanced curriculum provides learners with an inherent dedication to hard work and excellence as well as 21st-century skills through specialised subjects such as Information Technology and Robotics.
We use tablets in class
Learners from the intermediate phase onwards may choose to use tablets in class (e-learning devices) rather than textbooks – or a combination thereof, based on the subject. Furthermore, assignments and homework are often submitted electronically via the Microsoft Schools Suite, which allows learners to easily (and safely) collaborate with teachers and classmates. By exposing learners to the daily use of technology, they are better prepared for the challenges of tertiary studies as well as the ever-changing workplace of the future.
What is meant by an enhanced curriculum?
As a Curro School, we are committed to providing learners with an excellent education. Therefore, our approach to teaching the national CAPS curriculum is based on project-based learning and self-discovery. This approach allows learners to interact with the learned material or discover the core concepts themselves. Regular assessments and tests still take place, but we focus on ensuring that learners can use their intellectual abilities to discover the material and make it real to them in some way. This further provides them with 21st-century skills such as problem-solving, research, and self-initiated proactive action. Due to our small class sizes, learners each have access to our state-of-the-art equipment and tools in subjects such as Robotics and Art.
