Curro Academy Wilgeheuwel is an independent school in Wilgeheuwel, Roodepoort, that provides high-quality education for learners from Grade 8 to Grade 12. Our dedicated teachers and well-rounded approach prepare learners for the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations at the end of Grade 12. Our small class sizes and enhanced curriculum empower learners with 21st-century skills and knowledge, while we aim to provide the most affordable school fees possible without compromising academic standards. Our learners may even use tablets in class rather than textbooks and have isiZulu as an additional language option.
Senior phase: Grade 8 and Grade 9
In these grades, we guide learners to adjust to a greater workload of higher intensity. With dedicated teachers and affordable school fees, our approach places great emphasis on problem-solving and individual thinking. Teaching takes place in English, and learners develop 21st-century skills through our approach to subjects such as Robotics and Technology. As part of our commitment to affordable school fees, our learners also receive guidance when choosing their elective subjects at the end of Grade 9 and have isiZulu as an additional language option.
FET phase: Grade 10 to Grade 12
This phase prepares learners in our small class sizes for the NSC examinations written at the end of Grade 12. However, we emphasise a greater world-readiness rather than a purely examination-driven approach. Our learners are taught 21st-century skills by learning to think innovatively, express their ideas and take charge of their own lives to be valued members of the community. At our Curro Academy school, learners further benefit from our enhanced curriculum by having Afrikaans and isiZulu as additional language options, and 21st-century learning is implemented in subjects such as Engineering Graphics and Design (EGD) and Physical Sciences.
We use tablets in class
High school learners may choose to use tablets in class rather than textbooks, which further prepares them for the workplace of the future. This allows teachers in our small class sizes to provide learners with additional information or exercises at the touch of a button.

What is meant by an enhanced curriculum?
As a Curro Academy school, we are committed to providing learners with an excellent education. Therefore, our approach to teaching the national CAPS curriculum is based on project-based learning and self-discovery. This approach allows our learners to interact with the learned material or discover the core concepts themselves. Regular assessments and tests still take place, but we focus on ensuring that learners can use their intellectual abilities to discover the material and make it real to them in some way. This further provides them with 21st-century skills such as problem-solving, research, and self-initiated proactive action.
A wider subject choice
High school learners can now extend their subject choices beyond what is offered at our school. Learners can choose from a wide range of subjects, and classes will take place during the school day in the form of live lessons with teachers. These subjects can be seen as an extension of our enhanced curriculum from which our learners already benefit. Learners remain enrolled at our school, they still write assessments and examinations, and their marks reflect on their regular progress reports.
