Academics

Curro Jewel City has a primary school in the Maboneng Precinct of the City and Suburban suburb. We provide the excellent Curro education to learners from Grade 6 and Grade 7. Our learners follow uninterrupted online learning according to the programme set by Curro Online. Learners have access to all our school’s facilities, all required equipment is provided, and they get in-class support from tech-savvy learning coaches.

Teaching takes place in English, and learners have Afrikaans and isiZulu as additional language options.

A new approach

We take a whole new approach of teaching. At traditional schools, teachers stand in front of the class and teach from a prescribed textbook. They write on whiteboards, answer questions, and hand out homework to do after school. We teach by having our learners watch study textbooks, and watch videos, simulations, and tutorials as many times as they need to understand what they’re learning (it’s a digital education). When learners have questions, the teacher comes to them and explains everything they want to know, and they can ask as many questions as they need to. This means that each learner gets individual help exactly where they need, the teachers monitor each learner’s progress, and they get used to take charge of their own learning and, later on, their lives.

You get the excellent Curro education

As part of the Curro school group, we are committed to providing learners with an excellent education. That is why our lessons are not pre-recorded or uploaded for your child to navigate on their own. Our learners have live lessons with teachers and all lessons are recorded so that they can use it for catch-up or revision. Even though they learn from home, learners follow a timetable of classes, and can use the afternoons for homework and revision to cement what they had learned during the day.

Also, our teachers remain available for academic as well as emotional support during school hours. With our approach, learners can progress to a high school that write IEB exams, or they can choose to progress to our high school that follows the Curro DigiEd approach.

How does online learning work?

Our learners enjoy live lessons with teachers on MS Teams, as scheduled according to a structured timetable. All lessons are recorded and learners can access digital material and recorded lessons online any time of day. These lessons take place in small groups, and teachers track learners’ progress on a daily basis. All assessments and examinations take place online under the teachers’ supervision.

As part of the Curro school group, our learners enjoy preference when applying to any school in the group. Since our primary school learners follow an online learning programme, they can easily progress to Curro Online, which is a fully online school where your chid can learn from home. High schools in the group within a 30-minute drive include Curro Academy Parkdene, Curro Academy Wilgeheuwel, Curro Aurora, Curro Edenvale, Curro Rivonia, Curro Victory Park, The King's School Linbro Park, and Waterstone College.

Regular timetable and self-study sessions

Even though we follow a fully online learning approach, lessons are still scheduled according to a regular timetable within regular school hours. There are also optional self-study times afterwards, which take place in the regular supervised class space.

Activities your child can enjoy

One part of the excellent Curro education, is that academics are balanced with sports and cultural activities. Participation in activities promote team-awareness, collaboration, and self-confidence. Activities such as art and choir help learners develop the skills to gather their thoughts and express themselves in creative ways. Our focused variety of activities, such as performing arts and various non-competitive ball sports, are tailored to the interests of learners in our area. Your child is sure to find something that will pique their interest.
