Windhoek Gymnasium has a pre-primary school in Kleine Kuppe, Windhoek (Namibia), that provides high-quality early childhood development for children from 3 years to Grade R. Our classes are divided by age, and we carefully control the number of children per class to ensure that they are all cared for and entertained. Our pre-primary programme follows the Namibian curriculum and engages inherent curiosity and love of play, while supporting children’s well-being all-round. We also form part of the Curro school group, and teaching takes place in English, Afrikaans and German.

Namibia’s pre-primary school curriculum

Our curriculum is based on Stepping Stones by Grové and Hauptfleisch, All-in-One, and the Namibian pre-primary syllabus (from 3 to 5 years). This combination ensures that our children get a holistic early childhood development – emotional, perceptual, motorial, social and intellectual well-being. This helps your child grow confident in themselves and forms a healthy basis that will allow them to master their academics in primary school.

We accommodate Grade R

We help your child get ready for the formal learning that starts in Grade 1. They learn the basic foundations on which all further learning is based:

• Language (read, spell, understand, speak, listen)
• Mathematics (count, understand numbers, addition, subtraction and multiplication)
• Life skills (physical education, real-life experiences, problem-solving, creativity)

Teaching takes place in English, Afrikaans and German, and they also have these languages as subject options.

How big are the classes

Children need lots of attention and nurturing. That is why our classes are divided by age, and we carefully control the number of children in each class. Our teachers also have one or more assistants, depending on the age group and number of children in the class. By having a limited number of children in class, our teachers can give each one the individual care and attention they need to flourish and feel loved.

Activities your child can enjoy

Our daily programme is packed with a variety of physical and cognitive activities where children play while they learn. We also offer additional, optional extramural activities as additional opportunities to strengthen focused areas or hone certain skills. Our extramural activities are offered by external tutors or coaches at an additional cost and take place on the school’s premises.
