Academics

Oshana Gymnasium is a developing school that will have a preschool in Ongwediva, Oshana (Namibia). We will offer high-quality early childhood development for children from 3 years to Grade R. Our classes will be divided by age and we will carefully limit the number of children per class to ensure they are all cared for and entertained. Our preschool programme will follow the Namibian curriculum, which engages inherent curiosity and love of play, while supporting children’s well-being all-round. We also form part of the Curro school group, teaching takes place in English, and will have an aftercare service.

Namibia’s pre-primary school curriculum

Our curriculum is based on Stepping Stones by Grové and Hauptfleisch, All-in-One, and the Namibian pre-primary syllabus (from 3 to 5 years). This combination ensures that our children receive a holistic early childhood development – emotional, perceptual, motorial, social and intellectual well-being. This helps your child grow confident in themselves and forms a healthy basis that will allow them to master their academics in primary school.

A daily routine

Our preschool programme will be presented through a daily routine that focuses on letting children learn by having lots of fun within a framework. Such a schedule creates space for creative activities, running and playing, singing and dancing, and so much more! This also provides children with stability and a sense of safety.

As part of the Curro school group, children enjoy preference when applying to us from any school in the group. Should you and your family relocate to Ongwediva, we will help you through the transfer process from start to finish. The group has two other schools in Namibia, namely Walvis Bay Gymnasium and Windhoek Gymnasium.

We will accommodate Grade R

We will help your child get ready for the formal learning that starts in Grade 1. They will learn the basic foundations on which all further learning is based:

  • Language (read, spell, understand, speak, listen)
  • Mathematics (count, understand numbers, addition, subtraction and multiplication)
  • Life skills (physical education, real-life experiences, problem-solving, creativity)

Language assistance

We understand that our community has many families whose home language is Afrikaans or Oshindonga. As our classes will be taught in English, we plan to support your child in growing comfortable with English.

How big are the classes

Children need lots of attention and nurturing. That is why our classes will be divided by age, with a carefully limited number of children in each class. Our teachers will also have one or more assistants, depending on the age group and number of children in the class. By having a limited number of children in class, our teachers can give each one the individual care and attention they need to flourish and feel loved.

A true Namibian experience

Our school is born from the realisation that the community of northern Namibia has a desire for quality schools. Our approach will encompass the values and lifestyle of the Namibian child as developed by fellow Namibians. These values are built on good academics, sport, culture, positive discipline, child-friendliness and a strong moral education.

As a preschool in Ongwediva, Oshana (Namibia), we are committed to providing an education that meets our community’s needs. Take a scroll through the rest of our website to discover everything your child can enjoy with us.
