Meridian Pinehurst High School

Academics

Meridian Pinehurst is an independent Meridian school in Pinehurst, Durbanville that offers high-quality education for learners from Grade 8 to Grade 12. With controlled class sizes, dedicated teachers and focused sports and cultural activities, we try to ensure affordable school fees without compromising our academic standards, 21st-century skills or our enhanced curriculum. Our learners also benefit from using tablets in class (2-in-1 devices) as part of our approach to teaching and learning.

As a Meridian school, our school is managed by Curro as part of a joint venture with Old Mutual and the Public Investment Corporation.

Senior phase: Grade 8 and Grade 9

In these grades, we guide learners to adjust to a greater workload of higher intensity. With dedicated teachers and affordable school fees, our enhanced curriculum approach places great emphasis on problem-solving and individual thinking. Teaching takes place in English, but Afrikaans and isiXhosa are offered as additional language options, and 21st-century skills are implemented in subjects such as Natural Sciences and Technology. As a Meridian school, our learners also receive guidance when choosing their elective subjects at the end of Grade 9.

FET phase: Grade 10 to Grade 12

This phase prepares learners for the NSC examinations written at the end of Grade 12. However, through our enhanced curriculum we emphasise a greater world-readiness rather than a purely examination-driven approach. Our learners are taught to think innovatively, express their ideas and take charge of their own lives to be valued members of the community. Learners further benefit from having Afrikaans and isiXhosa as a additional language options, and learners gain 21st-century skills through specialised subjects such as Physical Sciences and Business Studies.

We use tablets in class

As part of our teaching and learning strategy, we use tablets in class (2-in-1 electronic devices) rather than textbooks, which further prepares our learners for the workplace of the future. When using these 2-in-1 devices, learners access their textbooks electronically and become comfortable with the integrated use of technology.

Additional subjects online

High-school learners can now extend their subject choices beyond what is offered at our school. Learners can choose from a wide range of subjects, and classes will take place during the school day in the form of live lessons with teachers. These subjects can be seen as an extension of our enhanced curriculum from which our learners already benefit. Meridian Pinehurst activities

Sports and cultural activities

As a Meridian school, we believe that participation in activities plays an important role in promoting health, discipline, self-confidence and community. Therefore, our variety of activities are designed to help learners discover their inherent talents, or to broaden their exposure beyond their current reference framework. Some of our activities are aimed at boosting learners’ cognitive abilities, while others provide pure enjoyment. These activities are generally included in our affordable school fees, unless otherwise stated.

We offer Curro Create programmes

We also offer Curro Arts Superhero (CAS) as part of the Curro Create initiative. CAS is an internal creative mentorship platform with a grading element, where learners are encouraged to discover, develop and display their inherent 21st-century skills and creative talents.
