At Grantleigh, we have created a safe, modern environment where children can grow accustomed to learning and working with modern equipment and facilities. Along with our small class sizes, this ensures that they develop 21st-century skills. Therefore, classrooms and laboratories for specialised subjects such as Technology and Computer Applications Technology are equipped with tools that allow learners to interact with the learned material through experiments or projects.
We use tablets in class
As a Curro Select school, we aim to embrace 21st-century learning by incorporating the use of tablets in class. Using tablets in class allows teachers to provide learners with a wealth of information at the touch of a button and prepares them for the workplace of the future.
Grantleigh’s boarding school offers safe, modern accommodation for learners from Grade 4 to Grade 12. With four boarders per room, laundry and housekeeping facilities, comfortable learning areas, live-in staff and a resident nurse and sickbay, our boarding school is a safe, comforting home away from home.
Read more on our boarding facilities on our boarding school brochure (see Downloads), or contact us to enquire about boarding school fees.
Specialised activity facilities
Our school’s facilities are designed to accommodate a wide variety of sports and cultural activities on the premises. Our activity facilities include:
At Grantleigh, we have a digital library where parents and learners can access hundreds of books to read on digital platforms. Our e-library can be accessed via Downloads.
Parent Advisory Committee (PAC)
As a Curro Select School, we encourage parents to play a role in managing our school through a duly elected parent advisory committee (PAC). As the name indicates, the PAC’s role is strictly an advisory one – they do not make and enforce decisions regarding school matters. The committee comprises parents of current learners and serves for a term of three years. At Grantleigh, our PAC acts as liaison between the school and parents, raises funds through specific events throughout the year and hosts social- and fellowship events. Through the PAC, parents can share their input in a structured manner to the benefit of the learners and school. As a school community they can, therefore, be involved in the operational success of the school.
After recognising the need for good education in their area, Fred and Renette Grant founded Grantleigh on their Mposa farm in 1996. Their goal was to provide a well-rounded and balanced education based on Christian values (ethics and morals). Our school opened its doors in 1997 with 16 nursery school learners and 5 junior-preparatory phase learners dressed in civvies, and teaching took place on the founders’ veranda and in their TV room. Swimming lessons were offered in the family pool and cricket lessons started on the tennis court as part of the school fees. As interest in the school grew rapidly, construction soon began on school buildings and sports fields. In 1998, 123 learners started the school year in newly built classrooms, we started a transport service, and requests from parents soon sparked talks to include a high school the following year.
Our school kept expanding to higher grades, more transport services and a wider variety of offerings in academics, sports and culture. Our first headmaster, Peter Terry-Lloyd, brought great expertise to our school and, by 2003 – only seven years after opening – our classes spanned Grade R to Grade 12 for the first time. During that year, we also inducted our first head boy and head girl, as well as our first parent advisory committee. By 2014, we had joined the Curro group as a Curro Select school and have continued to provide excellent education to learners in the wider Richards Bay area. We are continuously improving our offering and expanding our school to accommodate more learners, still within small class sizes, with a wider range of interests.
