Academics
Grantleigh is an independent Curro Select primary school situated just north of Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal, that provides high-quality education for learners from Grade R to Grade 7. As a Curro Select school, our small class sizes, enhanced curriculum (which includes the use of tablets in class) and dedicated teachers provide learners with 21st-century skills and knowledge to grow into self-confident individuals.
Our school philosophy is based on Christian values (ethics and morals) and we believe in fostering learners’ development so they can each reach their dreams.
Junior preparatory phase: Grade R to Grade 3
With dedicated teachers and small class sizes, our junior preparatory phase starts by providing the emotional and intellectual foundation required to handle the formal learning that starts in Grade 1. We then gradually develop learners’ skills and knowledge in basic areas such as language (comprehension, speaking and listening), mathematics (counting and understanding numbers), and creative problem-solving in an environment where they enjoy coming to school. Learners are introduced to project-based learning and our enhanced curriculum includes computer skills, music and science. Learners even benefit from being introduced to Robotics through Duplo Lego, and having isiZulu as a conversational language.
Senior preparatory phase: Grade 4 to Grade 7
In these grades, learners are led into more abstract thought and independent work. Our small class sizes and dedicated teachers prepare them for high school by teaching them how to apply the skills and concepts they have learned. We also promote creativity and critical thinking by encouraging children to make their own choices within well-established boundaries. Our enhanced curriculum focused on developing 21st-century skills includes specialised subjects such as Robotics, and learners may choose between Afrikaans and isiZulu as additional language options.
At Grantleigh we use tablets in class
As a Curro Select school, we aim to embrace 21st-century skills by incorporating the use of tablets in class from this phase onwards. Using tablets allows teachers to provide learners with a wealth of information at the touch of a button and prepares them for the workplace of the future.
