Curro Hermanus is an independent school in Hermanus, Western Cape, that provides high-quality education for learners from Grade 8 to Grade 12. Our dedicated teachers and well-rounded approach prepare learners for the IEB examinations at the end of Grade 12. With small class sizes, dedicated teachers, and an enhanced curriculum, we empower learners with 21st-century skills and knowledge to grow into high-performing, self-confident individuals who are ready to become the leaders of the future. Our learners even use tablets in class to enhance teaching and learning.
Senior phase: Grade 8 and Grade 9
At Curro Hermanus, our Grade 8 and Grade 9 learners are guided to adjust to a greater workload of higher intensity. Our teaching is aimed at developing innovative and critical thinking, while a problem-solving approach is taken in all subjects. Our enhanced curriculum places a greater emphasis on language development, and a 21st-century approach is embraced in the tuition of Technology, Mathematics and Science. Our curriculum covers, amongst others, aspects of nanotechnology and Leonard da Vinci’s inventions in certain subjects. Learners benefit from choosing English or Afrikaans as a language of instruction and they receive comprehensive guidance when choosing their elective subjects at the end of Grade 9. Learners do a psychological aptitude test and the results are used to support parents and learners to make an informed subject choice for the FET phase.
FET phase: Grade 10 to Grade 12
The FET phase prepares learners for the IEB examinations written at the end of Grade 12. However, emphasis is placed on a greater world-readiness rather than a purely examination-driven approach. Our learners are taught to be independent and innovative in their approach to problem-solving and dealing with current and global issues. Learners express their ideas and take charge of their own lives as valued members of the local and broader community. Learners benefit by choosing English or Afrikaans as a language of instruction. Some of our specialised subjects include Computer Science, Natural and Physical Sciences, Hospitality Studies and Tourism, and Engineering Graphics and Design.
We use tablets in class
At Curro Hermanus, high school learners use tablets in class to collaborate in teams, conduct research, or receive assignments/additional material from teachers via MS Teams. By exposing learners to the daily use of technology, they are better prepared for the challenges of tertiary studies as well as the ever-changing workplace of the future.

A wider subject choice
High-school learners can now extend their subject choices beyond what is offered at our school. Learners can choose from a wide range of subjects, and classes will take place during the school day in the form of live lessons with teachers. These subjects can be seen as an extension of our enhanced curriculum from which our learners already benefit.
