Academics
Curro Burgundy is an independent nursery school in Bothasig, Cape Town, that provides high-quality early childhood development for children from 3 years to 5 years. As a Curro School, our small class sizes allow our dedicated teachers to engage each child in our internally developed play-based curriculum and to build strong, caring relationships with each child as part of our school fees.
What does Curro Burgundy offer?
At Curro Burgundy, we provide a safe, nurturing environment where children are cared for and engaged in play-based developmental activities. Our classrooms are designed to encourage educational curiosity, while our playgrounds are equipped with play structures that inspire physical development through movement and play. Our small class sizes are divided by age group, which allows our teachers to spend quality time with each child. Children also benefit from educational shows as part of our school fees.
How does Curro Burgundy support my child’s early childhood development?
Our internally developed programme is designed with the Early Learning and Development Areas (ELDAs) in mind. This approach to early childhood development aims to stimulate physical, social, emotional and cognitive well-being through, developmental activities and engaging play areas. ELDAs focus on aspects such as gross motor development, fine-motor development, social awareness, communication, spatial awareness and arts.
We encourage loose-parts play
As a Curro School, we believe the development of curiosity and imagination in early childhood is vitally important to the development of problem-solving skills and critical thinking later on. Therefore, in our small class sizes we encourage playing with loose-parts and multi-purpose playthings, rather than single-purpose toys that don’t involve much imagination. Through loose-parts play, children use their natural curiosity to explore previously undiscovered fascinations such as stacking, rolling, sliding, fitting, colours, and more.

Curro Burgundy activities
We are a Curro School and therefore we believe that participation in extramural activities plays an important role in promoting social skills, self-confidence, and physical well-being. Activities are offered by external tutors or coaches, at a cost additional to the school fees. Some extramural activities at our preschool are aimed at improving or supporting academic learning or mental and physical development, while others are purely recreational.
