You get the excellent Curro education

We are committed to providing learners with an excellent education. That is why our approach to teaching the national CAPS curriculum is based on project-based learning and self-discovery. This approach allows our primary school learners to explore the learning material beyond just the textbook through research, experiments and assignments. Regular assessments and tests still take place, but it’s important to us that learners can use their intellectual abilities to make the material real to them in some way. This gives learners a head start in their eventual workplace dreams, because they learn to take initiative and making connections between pieces of knowledge.

What happens in Grade R to Grade 7

Our foundation phase starts by helping Grade R learners get ready for the formal learning that starts in Grade 1. In this phase, they learn the basic foundations on which all further learning is based:

  • Language (read, spell, understand, speak, listen)
  • Mathematics (count, understand numbers, addition, subtraction and multiplication)
  • Life skills (physical education, real-life experiences, problem-solving, creativity)

In the intermediate phase, the work becomes less tangible or real, and more abstract. To do this, learners start with project-based learning, which means they do research, assignments, and experiments to explore the material outside just the textbook.

Teaching takes place in English, and learners have Robotics and Natural Sciences as subjects.

What else do you benefit from

In addition to our excellent academics, we offer a number of specialised offerings from which your child can benefit. Here are just a few?

  • Extra classes after school
  • On-site school counsellor
  • Learner support classes for learners with specific learning barriers

We use tablets in class

Technology has become a part of our daily lives and our learners are comfortable around it. By using technology in class, we meet learners where they are and give them a head start in the technology they will use in their eventual workplace. This is why learners from Grade 6 may choose to view textbooks on tablets or in hard copy.

As a Meridian school, we form part of the greater Curro school group and we are managed as part of a joint venture with Old Mutual. Our learners enjoy preference when applying to any school in the group. Nearby schools nearby include Curro Durbanville and Curro Uitzicht, with Curro Academy Sandown further away.

Activities your child can enjoy

One part of the excellent Curro education, is that academics are balanced with sports and cultural activities. Participation in activities promote team-awareness, collaboration, and self-confidence. Activities such as art and choir help learners develop the skills to gather their thoughts and express themselves in creative ways. Our focused variety of activities, such as cheerleading and soccer, are tailored to the interests of learners in our area. Your child is sure to find something that will pique their interest.
