Curro Halala Cup off to a strong start across provinces

School football talent is on full display as the first round of the Curro Halala Cup kicked off with high-energy matches across South Africa. Early results are in from provinces all over South Africa, featuring narrow wins, penalty shootouts, and standout performances. As teams gear up for the second round on 22 May, the race to the national finals in August is well under way.

 

 

Mpumalanga: Close margins and confident wins

Barberton High made their mark early, defeating Curro Nelspruit 3 – 0. Lowveld High advanced automatically after Metropolitan College forfeited. In two tight contests, Curro Clayville edged past Meridien Karino 1 – 0, and Stintile Secondary beat Curro Mbombela by the same score.

These results set up two key matchups for Round 2:

 

Limpopo: Big wins set up Round 2 clashes

Westenburg Secondary powered past Sebitja Secondary with a 3 – 0 win, while Louis Trichardt High narrowly beat Happy Day Secondary 1 – 0. Northern Academy kept a clean sheet in their 2 – 0 win over Tom Naude. In the highest-scoring match of the province, Florida Park defeated Future Comprehensive 4 – 1.

Gauteng 2: Penalty drama and strong finishes

Curro Soshanguve progressed after a tense 1 – 1 draw and 5 – 4 win on penalties against Curro Pretoria. Curro Thatchfield scored a 3 – 1 win over Kings Robin Hills, Clapham High beat Rosina Sedibane 2 – 0, and King’s Linbro Park posted a 5 – 2 victory over HeronBridge College.

Western Cape: High-scoring matches steal the show

Curro Somerset West narrowly beat Curro Sandown 4 – 3, while Meridian Pinehurst and Curro Century City ended 2 – 2, with Meridian taking the win on penalties (4 – 2). Camps Bay High secured a 4 – 1 victory over Somerset College, and Milnerton High finished the round with a commanding 5 – 1 result against Wellington College.

Postponed fixtures

No matches took place in KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape, Free State, or Gauteng 1 due to weather-related delays and scheduling changes.

Rescheduled dates are as follows:

  • Free State: 14 – 15 May in Bloemfontein
  • KwaZulu-Natal: 7 – 8 May at Curro Hillcrest
  • Gauteng 1: 7 – 8 May at Waterstone College
  • Eastern Cape: 22 May
