Waterstone College has a high school in Kibler Park, Johannesburg. We offer an excellent education that combines academics with sports and cultural activities. Teaching takes place in English, we have a wide variety of specialised subjects, and we form part of the Curro school group. In addition, we are an IEB school and have a school transport service. Our school philosophy is based on Christian values (ethics and morals) and incorporates academics, sport, culture, and community in our holistic approach.

We are an IEB school

We are committed to providing learners with an excellent education. That is why our approach to teaching the national CAPS curriculum is based on project-based learning and self-discovery. As an IEB school, this approach allows our high school learners to explore the learning material beyond just the textbook through research, experiments and assignments, while still preparing them for their exams in Grade 12. Regular assessments and tests still take place, but it’s important to us that learners can use their intellectual abilities to make the material real to them in some way. This teaches them to take initiative and make connections between pieces of knowledge – which further develops critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.

As part of the Curro school group, learners enjoy preference when applying to us from any school in the group. Nearby primary schools in the group whose children can easily progres to us include Curro Oakdene (once they phase in Grade 7), Curro Academy Protea Glen and Curro Academy Savanna City.

What happens in Grade 8 to Grade 12

Our senior phase starts by helping Grade 8 learners grow accustomed to the greater workload of higher intensity in high school. We limit the number of learners in each class to ensure that they get individual attention in exactly the places they need. Our learners also receive guidance when choosing their elective subjects at the end of Grade 9. From Grade 10, we prepare learners for the IEB exams in Grade 12. However, we focus on more than just assessments, by applying the work to real-life situations. This helps learners to understand the work much better, and further empowers them with knowledge and skills to become the leaders of the future.

Teaching takes place in English, and learners can choose Afrikaans, isiZulu, isiXhosa and Sepedi as additional language options.

A wider subject choice

Our learners can choose elective subjects beyond what is offered at our school. These subjects take place digitally and are presented live by Curro teachers. Lessons are scheduled during the school day, with supervised self-directed sessions after hours. These subjects can be seen as an extension of the excellent Curro education your child gets with us, and they still write the IEB exam at the end of Grade 12.

Waterstone College scholarships

We appreciate dedication and excellence. Therefore, we offer internal Curro school scholarships to current learners who excel in particular areas, as determined by the terms and conditions of the particular scholarship. We also offer scholarships each year to learners from other schools who exceed in these areas and would like to join our school. Please contact us for information on how to apply for these scholarships.

Activities your child can enjoy

As a high school in Kibler Park, we balance academics with sports and cultural activities. Participation in activities promote team-awareness, collaboration, and self-confidence. Our wide variety of activities, such as equestrian and an eco-club, are tailored to the interests of learners in our area. Your child is sure to find something that will pique their interest.

We also have individual sports academies that provide more specialised training and coaching to learners who display particular promise in particular sports codes.
