Northriding College High School
Northriding College is an independent school situated in Northriding, Randburg, that provides high-quality education for learners from Grade 8 to Grade 9, with higher grades phasing in annually. As a Curro Select school, our small class sizes, enhanced curriculum and dedicated teachers provide learners with 21st-century skills and knowledge to grow into self-confident individuals. Our high school follows the Curro DigiEd approach that prepares learners for the fourth industrial revolution through a project-based learning programme that emphasises Science, Mathematics, and Technology.
Senior phase: Grade 8 and Grade 9
At Northriding College, our learners are guided to adjust to a greater workload of higher intensity in this phase. Our teaching is aimed at developing innovative and critical thinking, while a problem-solving approach is taken to subjects such as Mathematics. As a Curro Select school, our enhanced curriculum places a great emphasis on problem-solving and individual thinking, while 21st-century skills are taught in subjects such as Technology and Natural Sciences.
Learners in our small class sizes are taught to maintain a sustainable work ethic so that they can find a healthy balance to reach their academic expectations. They also receive guidance when choosing elective subjects at the end of Grade 9.
FET phase: Grade 10 to Grade 12
Once phased in, this phase prepares learners for the NSC examinations written at the end of Grade 12. However, we emphasise a greater world-readiness rather than a purely examination-driven approach. Through our enhanced curriculum, our learners are taught to think innovatively, express their ideas and take charge of their own lives to one day reach their goals and become self-confident, achieving adults. Keep an eye on our website to see which subjects we plan to offer in this phase.
What is the Curro DigiEd approach?
Our teaching takes place through interactive e-learning tools and videos, with teachers and tutors providing one-on-one assistance as needed. By moving the teachers in our small class sizes away from the whiteboard and into the classroom, learners can get more immediate and personal assistance to understand a particular concept before moving on. Learners also find the interactive, multimedia-based material more engaging and are, therefore, more likely to stay interested and invested during the learning process.
Longer school hours and no homework
As we follow the Curro DigiEd approach, our longer school hours and no-homework policy accommodate the schedules of working parents by removing the pressure of managing heavy loads of homework. Learners can be dropped off early in the morning when parents are on their way to work.
Preparing learners for the fourth industrial revolution
With a great focus on 21st-century skills, we offer advanced Technology, Science, and Mathematics. Learners are prepared to write the NSC (National Senior Certificate) examinations at the end of Grade 12, but gain many additional skills that prepare them for the fourth industrial revolution.

Northriding College activities
As a Curro Select school, we believe that outreach programmes are important not only to benefit the community, but also to develop appreciation and empathy in our learners. Therefore, we host various outreach programmes during the year and learners are actively involved in all areas of the project.
We believe that sport plays an important role in promoting friendship, team-awareness and self-confidence in addition to physical well- being. At our school, we offer focused sports activities based on the time of year – and these activities take place during the school day. While healthy competition is encouraged, the enjoyment of the game is not compromised.
Culture is one of the foundational pillars of developing a well-balanced learner and plays a great role in broadening learners’ reference frameworks. Our learners have the opportunity to participate in several cultural activities – during the school day – regardless of their interests and abilities in sport or academics.
We offer two Curro Create programmes aimed at helping learners develop their creative talents to their full potential. Curro Arts Superhero (CAS) is an internal creative mentorship platform with a grading element, where learners are encouraged to discover, develop and display their inherent creative talents.
Learners have the opportunity to participate in the annual Curro Create National Youth Theatre Festival, wherein schools enter a one-act play in any genre and official language. The winning plays are chosen through a series of adjudications by world-class theatre-makers, who closely mentor learners throughout the process.
