Northern Academy has a primary school in Bendor, Polokwane. We provide the excellent Curro education to learners from Grade R to Grade 7. We limit our class sizes to make sure learners get personal attention, and they benefit from having Robotics as a subject. We have an aftercare service and a boarding school, and our ultimate goal is to give our learners a head start in reaching their dreams, whatever these might be.
As a Meridian school, we form part of the greater Curro school group and we are managed as part of a joint venture with Old Mutual.
You get the excellent Curro education
We are committed to providing learners with an excellent education. That is why our approach to teaching the national CAPS curriculum is based on project-based learning and self-discovery. This approach allows our primary school learners to explore the learning material beyond just the textbook through research, experiments and assignments. Regular assessments and tests still take place, but it’s important to us that learners can use their intellectual abilities to make the material real to them in some way. This gives learners a head start in their eventual workplace dreams, because they learn to take initiative and making connections between pieces of knowledge.
What happens in Grade R to Grade 7
Our foundation phase starts by helping Grade R learners get ready for the formal learning that starts in Grade 1. In this phase, they learn the basic foundations on which all further learning is based:
In the intermediate phase, the work becomes less tangible or real, and more abstract. To do this, learners start with project-based learning, which means they do research, assignments, and experiments to explore the material outside just the textbook.
Teaching takes place in English, and learners have Afrikaans as an additional language option. They also have Robotics and Creative Arts as subjects in Grade 7.
How big are the classes?
We control the number of learners per class to allow our teachers the time and space to give personal attention to each learner, in exactly the places that they need. This is just one of the ways that we create an environment where your child will enjoy what they learn and love coming to school.

Activities your child can enjoy
One part of the excellent Curro education, is that academics are balanced with sports and cultural activities. Participation in activities promote team-awareness, collaboration, and self-confidence. Activities such as art and choir help learners develop the skills to gather their thoughts and express themselves in creative ways. Our focused variety of activities, such as soccer and athletics, are tailored to the interests of learners in our area. Your child is sure to find something that will pique their interest.
