Academics

Curro Serengeti has a primary school in Glen Marais in Kempton Park. We provide the excellent Curro education to learners from Grade R to Grade 7. We limit our class sizes to make sure learners get personal attention, and they benefit from having isiZulu and Robotics as subjects. Our goal is to offer our learners a quality education that will give them head start in reaching their dreams, whatever these might be. We also have aftercare and school transport service, and the intermediate phase closes earlier on Fridays so that you can enjoy your weekend.

You get the excellent Curro education

We are committed to providing learners with an excellent education. That is why our approach to teaching the national CAPS curriculum is based on project-based learning and self-discovery. This approach helps learners use their intellectual abilities to explore the learning material in a manner that makes it real to them somehow. This happens through research, experiments and assignments along with regular teaching methods.

As part of the Curro school group, learners enjoy preference when applying to us from any school in the group. Curro Academy Clayville is one nearby school with a primary school phase from which learners can move to us.

What happens in Grade R to Grade 7

Our foundation phase starts by helping Grade R learners get ready for the formal learning that starts in Grade 1. In this phase, they learn the basic foundations on which all further learning is based:

  • Language (read, spell, understand, speak, listen)
  • Mathematics (count, understand numbers, addition, subtraction and multiplication)
  • Life skills (physical education, real-life experiences, problem-solving, creativity)

In the intermediate phase, the work becomes less tangible or real, and more abstract. To do this, learners start with project-based learning, which means they do research, assignments, and experiments to explore the material outside just the textbook.

Teaching takes place in English, and learners can choose Afrikaans and isiZulu as additional language options. They also have Religious Studies in the intermediate phase, as well as Robotics throughout primary school.

How big are the classes

We control the number of learners per class to be no more than 25, so that our teachers have the time and space to give personal attention to each learner, in exactly the places that they need. This is just one of the ways that we create an environment where your child will enjoy what they learn and love coming to school.

Additional support

Learners sometimes need additional support to master the core academic skills on which further learning is built. This is why we offer four assistance programmes at no additional cost. These include the following:

  • Internal assessment
  • Language enrichment
  • Computer skills
  • Extra academic lessons

Contact us to find our more about these programmes.

Activities your child can enjoy

One part of the excellent Curro education, is that academics are balanced with sports and cultural activities. Participation in activities promote team-awareness, collaboration, and self-confidence. Our focused variety of activities, such as marimbas and chess, are tailored to the interests of learners in our area. Your child is sure to find something that will pique their interest.
