Curro Academy Protea Glen is an independent school in Protea Glen, Soweto, that provides high-quality education for learners from Grade 8 to Grade 11, with higher grades phasing in annually. Our dedicated teachers and well-rounded approach prepare learners for the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations at the end of Grade 12. Our enhanced curriculum and approach to education empower learners with 21st-century skills and knowledge to grow into high-performing, self-confident individuals and to reach their personal, educational and eventual-workplace goals. We aim to provide the most affordable school fees possible without compromising our academic standards.
Senior phase: Grade 8 and Grade 9
In these grades, we guide learners to adjust to a greater workload of higher intensity. With dedicated teachers and an enhanced curriculum, our approach places great emphasis on problem-solving and individual thinking. Teaching takes place in English, and learners gain 21st-century skills in subjects such as Natural Sciences and Technology. As a Curro Academy school, our learners also receive guidance when choosing their elective subjects at the end of Grade 9 as part of our affordable school fees.
FET phase: Grade 10 to Grade 12
This phase prepares learners for the NSC examinations written at the end of Grade 12. However, we emphasise a greater world-readiness rather than a purely examination-driven approach. Through our enhanced curriculum, our learners are taught to think innovatively, express their ideas and take charge of their own lives to be valued members of the community – all highly-valued 21st-century skills. Learners at our Curro Academy school further benefit from having Afrikaans as an additional language option, and 21st-century learning is implemented in subjects such as Physical Sciences and Computer Applications Technology (CAT).

A wider subject choice
High-school learners can now extend their subject choices beyond what is offered at our school. Learners can choose from a wide range of subjects, and classes will take place during the school day in the form of live lessons with teachers. These subjects can be seen as an extension of our enhanced curriculum from which our learners already benefit. Curro Academy Protea Glen activities
At Curro Academy Protea Glen, we believe that sport plays an important role in promoting friendship, health, team-awareness and self-confidence. Therefore, our focused activities are designed to help learners discover their inherent talents, or to broaden their exposure beyond their current reference framework. These activities are generally included in our affordable school fees unless otherwise stated. While healthy competition is encouraged, the enjoyment of the game is not compromised. Learners are encouraged to participate in sports activities, even if it is merely for physical well-being.
Culture is one of the foundational pillars of developing a well-balanced learner and plays a great role in broadening learners’ reference frameworks. As a Curro Academy school, our learners have the opportunity to participate in a variety of cultural activities, regardless of their interests and abilities in sport or academics. Activities such as chess further help to stimulate thinking patterns such as logical analysis and problem-solving, which help to improve aptitude in subjects such as Creative Arts and Mathematics. These activities are generally included in our affordable school fees unless otherwise stated.
Academic extension activities
We have additional academic extension sessions (similar to extra classes) at set times in the afternoons to help learners who are struggling.
