Meridian Cosmo City officially launched Pitso Mosimane Soccer Schools programme

Meridian Cosmo City’s recent week-long sports festival ended in flair on Saturday, 27 June 2023, when distinguished Coach Pitso Mosimane officially welcomed them to the Pitso Mosimane Soccer Schools programme at the school. They are the second school to join the programme, following Northern Academy, another school in the Curro group.

While the programme launched at both schools in January 2023, this sports festival was the perfect opportunity to host the official opening ceremony for this school. Soccer players from Meridian Cosmo City, Curro Academy Savanna City, and four neighbouring schools kicked it out on the field, and Coach Pitso even actively participated with the primary school learners. He also joined the finals on Saturday to hand out medals to all the winners.

One part of the excellent Curro education, is balancing academics with physical and emotional well-being, and soccer provides such great opportunities for the development of health, dedication, self-confidence, and personal growth. That is part of why the team aims to integrate the programme into the school’s daily programme. This will help to seek out and develop the skills of talented soccer players by providing them with the expertise, guidance, and training philosophy that made Coach Pitso one of South Africa’s most renowned coaches.

Furthermore, the partnership has led to extraordinary including coaching clinics conducted by English Premier League club AFC Bournemouth. Selected players have earned the chance to attend the club's prestigious training camp in the UK in 2024. The programme has also resulted in significant improvements to the school's facilities, with the installation of catch nets and the completion of artificial turf, elevating the standards of the soccer programme.

On 8 July 2023, Meridian Cosmo City and Northern Academy's joint team will participate in the inaugural under 15 Inter-Provincial tournament in Johannesburg. The tournament is hosted by The South African Football Association (SAFA) through the FIFA Talent Development Scheme (TDS).
