Early drop-off times
We accommodate working parents with a challenging commute by opening early in the morning. Children are welcomed by their teachers or teacher’s assistants and enjoy some free play before the preschool programme starts later on.
Half-day, mid-day or full-day options
We accommodate your household’s unique rhythm by having half-day, mid-day and full-day options. These options have unique fee structures, and the core early childhood development activities mostly take place during the morning. This means that your child will not lose out on any learning if you choose the half-day or mid-day option – although activities that take place in the afternoons remain developmental in nature.
We are open during holidays
As a preschool in Somerset West, we understand that working parents don’t get school holidays, which might pose a challenge when children are at home. That is why our preschool remains open during school holidays with a full holiday-care programme at no additional cost. Early childhood development activities continue, although we may arrange some extra fun activities during this time. We are closed only for a specified period during December and January.
Breakfast is included
Our school fees include breakfast and a morning snack. The full-day option also includes lunch, while lunch will be at an extra cost in the half-day option. These meals are freshly prepared in our on-site kitchen and are delivered to class in time for snack time or mealtime. We also carefully accommodate allergies and other dietary requirements, although we might request a medical letter for severe dietary requirements. This is just to ensure that our kitchen staff can correctly interpret and prepare food for your child. Speak to our teachers to find out how we store and prepare breastmilk and powdered formula.
Teachers have assistants
Our classes are divided by age and each teacher has one or more assistants, depending on the group and the number of children in the class. This ensures that each child gets the care and attention they need, and that they can optimally benefit from our preschool programme. There are often more assistants for the younger ones and babies, as they have needs that are unique from any other age groups.
Registered nurse on-site
Children wholeheartedly run, play, climb, and jump, which may sometimes lead to minor bumps and bruises. Sometimes they may even fall ill during the day. That’s why we have a registered nurse on-site during the school day. Please note that national regulations prohibit teachers from dispensing any medicine, even over-the-counter or herbal tonics, without a valid prescription signed by a medical doctor. Therefore, when a child needs medicine during the day, our nurse dispenses medicine in class only if a valid prescription is provided.
Adjustment reports and parent meetings
Our teachers form close relationships with each child, which allows them to know the individual adjustment and progress of your child. At the end of each term, we issue an adjustment or progress report, and have a one-on-one with each parent. Your child’s day is also recorded in a communication book, which is sent home each day. This includes meals eaten, drinks consumed, naps taken, emotional state, and more.
Indoor and outdoor play areas
Children learn by interacting with the world around them. That is why our preschool classrooms themselves are considered to be inanimate teachers of sorts. They are designed to allow maximum room for play and movement while being stimulating on a visual and tactile level. By involving the classroom in the learning experience, your child is engaged in early childhood development even when simply enjoying some lounge time with their friends.
Our outdoor play areas include a dirt bike track, sensory corners, large sand pit, jungle gyms, playhouses, shaded areas for creative and sensory play, and more. These areas are designed to encourage physical play, and generally have synthetic grass to prevent allergic reactions. Children are taken outside to play on days with moderate weather conditions to prevent excessive cold or sunburn. Additional safety measures are taken on sunny days.
