Curro Secunda high school is an independent Curro School in Secunda, Mpumalanga, that provides high-quality education for learners from Grade 8 to Grade 12. Our small class sizes and enhanced curriculum (which includes the use of tablets in class) empower learners with 21st-century skills and knowledge to grow into self-confident individuals and reach their personal, educational and future workplace goals. Our dedicated teachers and well-rounded approach prepare learners for the IEB examinations at the end of Grade 12.

Senior phase: Grade 8 and Grade 9

In these grades, we guide learners to adjust to a greater workload of higher intensity. With dedicated teachers and small class sizes, our enhanced curriculum approach places great emphasis on problem-solving and individual thinking. At our school, 21st-century skills are implemented in subjects such as Technology – including Robotics and technical drawing. Furthermore, subjects with two learning areas such as Social Science (Geography and History) are separated by semester, to ensure proper focus on each learning area.

As a Curro School, learners also receive guidance when choosing their elective subjects at the end of Grade 9, through independent psychometric evaluation. In addition, we offer bridging programmes in language, to help fill gaps in previous knowledge and help learners succeed.

FET phase: Grade 10 and Grade 12

This phase prepares learners for the IEB examinations written at the end of Grade 12. However, through our enhanced curriculum, we emphasise a greater world-readiness rather than a purely examinations-driven approach. Our learners are taught to think innovatively, express their ideas and take charge of their own lives to be valued members of the community. Some of our specialised subjects to promote the development of 21st-century skills include Engineering Graphics and Design (EGD) and Computer Applications Technology (CAT).

We use tablets in class

As a Curro School, our learners may choose to use tablets in class rather than textbooks, which further prepares them for the workplace of the future.

Extra classes

At Curro Secunda, we believe in helping all learners in our small class sizes reach their full potential. Therefore, we offer extra classes on Thursdays to assist learners who may need extra academic support. These classes take place on an appointment basis.

A wider subject choice

High-school learners can now extend their subject choices beyond what is offered at our school. Learners can choose from a wide range of subjects, and classes will take place during the school day in the form of live lessons with teachers. These subjects can be seen as an extension of our enhanced curriculum from which our learners already benefit.
