Academics
Curro Kathu has a preschool in Kathu, Northern Cape, that provides high-quality early childhood development for children from 3 months to 5 years. Our small class sizes and competitive school fees allow our dedicated teachers to engage each child in our internally developed play-based curriculum, and build strong, caring relationships with each child.
What do we offer?
At our Curro School, we provide a safe, nurturing environment where children are cared for and engaged in play-based developmental activities. Through competitive school fees, our classrooms are designed to encourage educational curiosity, while our playgrounds are equipped with play structures that inspire physical development through movement and play. Our small class sizes are divided by age group, which enables our teachers to spend quality time with each child.
How do we support your child’s development?
At our preschool, our internally developed programme is designed with the Early Learning and Development Areas (ELDAs) in mind. This approach to early childhood development aims to stimulate physical, social, emotional and cognitive well-being through developmental activities and engaging play areas. ELDAs focus on aspects such as gross-motor development, fine-motor development, social awareness, communication, spatial awareness and arts.
We focus on early childhood development through the ELDAs
As a Curro School, we incorporate the latest research in physical and cognitive development. The ELDAs (Early learning and Development Areas) stimulate physical, social, emotional and cognitive well-being through developmental activities and engaging play areas. The ELDAs focus on aspects such as gross-motor development, fine-motor development, social awareness, communication, spatial awareness and arts.
Our small class sizes, carefully designed playgrounds, safety measures and daily programmes make our preschool a safe and fun-filled home away from home. Children also benefit from activities built around large soft bricks, which form the important early foundations for later Robotics studies.
We encourage loose-parts play
The development of curiosity and imagination in early childhood is vitally important to the development of problem-solving skills and critical thinking later on. Therefore, we encourage playing with loose parts and multi-purpose playthings, rather than single-purpose toys that don’t involve much imagination. Through loose-parts play, children at our Curro School use their natural curiosity to explore previously undiscovered fascinations, such as stacking, rolling, sliding, fitting, colours and more. This well-developed approach is made possible by our competitive school fees.

Activities at our school
At Curro Kathu, we believe that participation in extramural activities plays an important role in promoting social skills, self-confidence and physical well-being. Our daily programme is packed with a variety of physical and cognitive activities where children play while they learn, which are included in our affordable school fees. Extramural activities are offered as additional opportunities to strengthen focused areas or hone certain skills. Our extramural activities are offered by external tutors or coaches at an additional cost and take place on the school’s premises.
