Curro Holdings Ltd: Private College - Midrand
Curro Holdings Ltd: Private College – Midrand is a private college campus in Midrand that offers National Certificate: Vocational (NCV) programmes. These career-focused matric programmes are offered in a safe school environment, thereby providing learners with the support of dedicated teachers in small class sizes. Our no-homework policy and longer school hours, supported by our affordable college fees, help to prepare learners for the demands of tertiary studies and the workplace.
What is the National Certificate: Vocational?
The National Certificate: Vocational is a high-standard, skills-focused qualification that runs parallel with the National Senior Certificate. Instead of Grades 10, 11 and 12, learners complete NCV Level 2, Level 3, and Level 4. An NCV Level 4 qualification is on the same NQF level as a Grade 12 certificate. This career-focused qualification allows learners with a Grade 9 pass to specialise in their chosen field of interest from a young age. Upon completion of each level, learners receive a qualification issued by Umalusi.

What do we offer?
At CHPC: Midrand, we offer a career-focused matric through NCV programmes that allow learners to specialise from a young age, thereby preparing them for the workplace or tertiary studies within their chosen field. Our private college campus is on the same campus as Curro New Road, allowing learners to stay in a school environment among their peers, rather than among students or adults.
We offer state-of-the-art facilities as well as on-site learner support and all resources for learning and teaching are included in the college fees.
At our private college campus, we offer the following programmes varying from Level 2 to Level 4:
- Information Technology and Computer Sciences
- Electrical Infrastructure Construction
- Engineering and Related Design
- Process Instrumentation
Why would you choose NCV?
These programmes allow learners who already know which career they want to pursue, to specialise from a young age. The qualification provides learners with academic and practical knowledge in their area of specialisation, as well as valuable 21st-century skills and workplace experience. Furthermore, good academic performance allows learners to further their studies at a tertiary education institution, or to enter the job market with workplace experience.
Who can register?
Learners who have passed Grade 9 can enrol for the programmes offered, although some programmes might require at least 50% for Mathematics. Maximum age restrictions apply per year.
What are the pass requirements?
Assessments are conducted via assignments, tests and examinations. Most assignments and tests are set by the college, while the external examinations are set by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET).
To pass each level, learners need to achieve the minimum percentage for each subject:
- English First Additional Language: 40%
- Life Orientation: 40%
- Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy: 30%
- Four programme-specific subjects: 50%

CHPC – Midrand activities
The longer notional hours required by NCV programmes don’t allow us to offer sports, cultural or extramural activities. However, we provide activities as part of our learner-support programme.
Learner support is a central part of our offering and is scheduled into our daily programme. It encompasses physical, social and emotional development of learners, as well as academic support. The purpose of our learner support programme is to create a supportive learning environment and reaches beyond the formal delivery of content and skills development. These activities can take the form of personal inventions and communication, learner and teacher feedback, educational assessment, and counselling.
