Children sometimes know which career they want to follow from a young age. NCV programmes allow them to do just this, directly after Grade 9. Read more below.

Curro Holdings Ltd: Private College – Midrand (also called CHPC Midrand) is a private college on the same campus as Curro New Road. By sharing a campus with the school, your child can start specialising in their chosen career while remaining in a school-like environment among their peers.

Discover the two programmes we offer, as well as their subjects and possible career options.

What is NCV?

The National Certificate: Vocational (NCV) is a high-quality qualification that allows your child to start studying in their chosen career field immediately after Grade 9. Instead of Grade 10, Grade 11 and Grade 12, students complete NCV Level 2, Level 3 and Level 4 in the programme of their choice. They get an excellent academic education that focuses on their chosen career path and matriculate with experience in an actual workplace. Also, students receive a national certificate at the end of each level. This means that they could choose to enter the workplace after any level, although we highly recommend completing Level 4.

Why would I choose NCV?

By completing an NCV programme up to Level 4, your child has an advantage on their Grade 12 counterparts. They shift to subjects that are relevant to their chosen career, instead of elective subjects that might not support that career. The programmes also include built-in time in an actual workplace where they assist in completing tasks instead of job shadowing. This means that your child matriculates with a national certificate academic qualification specific to their career, rather than beginning their studies only after Grade 12. In addition, they also matriculate with workplace experience to list on their CV, and the skills required to actively do the work involved.

Can my child go to university with NCV?

Yes! Students who pass Level 4 can apply to universities, as long as the qualification is in a career field similar to the programme they chose. The university’s regular application process and requirements will still apply.

Which NCV programmes do we offer?

At CHPC Midrand, we offer the following NCV programmes:

  • Information Technology and Computer Sciences
  • Engineering and Related Design
  • Process Instrumentation
  • Electrical Infrastructure Construction
