Alumni spotlight: Janet Koch – A champion on and off the court

Curro Durbanville alumni, Janet Koch, has been on quite the journey since she graduated in 2014. From Durbanville’s classrooms to international acclaim, she has gone on to claim the courts and the tech industry.

From Curro to Kansas

After completing her studies at Curro Durbanville, Janet secured a prestigious tennis scholarship to the University of Kansas. There, she not only excelled academically but also made waves on the tennis court. Janet achieved a career-high singles ranking of #34 in the US and was part of the number 1 ranked doubles team, leading her university to a national ranking of #7. Her time at Kansas set the stage for future success in both tennis and academics.

Coaching, business, and a new direction

Following her college years, Janet transitioned into coaching at the University of Utah, where she helped the team achieve a national ranking of #42 and played a key role in the development of the #12 ranked doubles team. However, the COVID-19 pandemic prompted her to explore new career paths. She pursued an MBA at Boise State University, graduating summa cum laude in 2023. That same year, her outstanding contributions to tennis were recognised with an induction into the Kansas Athletics Hall of Fame.

Leading in business and beyond

Today, Janet has built an impressive career as a Senior Account Manager in the tech industry in Salt Lake City. Her leadership skills extend beyond her professional role, as she serves as a President's Ambassador for the Salt Lake City Chamber of Commerce, making a positive impact on the local community.

Curro is incredibly proud of Janet's accomplishments, both on and off the court, and we look forward to following her continued success.
