Davin Beiersdorf

Davin Beiersdorf, Curro Langebaan class of 2023, is strutting the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival in France this week, ahead of the release of his film debut, I Hate Pirates. The movie, a horror film by Manny Mijares, is set for release early 2025 on Amazon Prime. Let’s see how Davin went from coastal-town piano player to rubbing shoulders with industry best at this glitzy event.

Humble beginnings in Langebaan

Davin started his career as a local model and actor, as well as a piano virtuoso being coached by Jaconell Mouton, a musical director and composer who is a mentor in the Curro Create initiative, AMP (Advanced Mentorship Progamme). He was chosen for individual coaching by the mentor team to get individual coaching, which further honed his craft in performance. He first discovered his love for piano under the guidance of Marietjie Steenkamp, a intermediate phase teacher at Curro Langebaan.

After taking a leap of faith by moving to the United States, Davin landed a role in the upcoming horror movie. The plot centres around a group of friends who unleash supernatural forces when they explore an abandoned chateau. This significant break-through marks the beginning of what promises to be a remarkable career.

Strutting his stuff at the Cannes Festival in France

Davin proudly posted a video on his Instagram account, showing him and two fellow attendees walking the press line at The Mondrian. This event gave him a valuable opportunity to network with industry veterans and new talent also attending the event.

‘Coming from a [coastal] town in South Africa I never thought I’d be walking the same red carpet many successful actors have walked. It’s a testament to the power of dreams and hard work. I can’t wait for you all to see the film I Hate Pirates,’ Davin shared.
