eSports history made at Curro Clash LAN

On Friday, 24 March 2023 many Curro primary and high schools in the Gauteng area came together to participate in the area’s first-ever in-person eSports LAN event. The event was a huge success, with teams from different schools competing against one another to see who could come out on top.

Curro Clash LAN, organised by Curro eSports in partnership with Acer for Education and managed by ACGL, featured four exciting titles: Rocket League, DOTA 2, Overwatch 2, and Minecraft PVP.

The players, coaches, and spectators had an amazing time. For many of them, this was the first time they had competed in an in-person eSports tournament, and they relished the opportunity to show off their skills and compete against other teams. The atmosphere was electric, with teams cheering one another on and spectators watching in awe as the players battled it out on screen.

In Rocket League, the competition was fierce, but in the end, Monument High emerged as the champion. They played incredibly well and showed that they had what it takes to be the best. Curro Krugersdorp’s high school came in a close second, with a Linden High School team taking the third spot.

Minecraft PVP was another exciting title, with the primary schools competing to see who had the best strategy in this ‘Capture the Flag’ world. In the end, it was Curro Krugersdorp who emerged victorious, taking both the first and second spots. Curro Thatchfield put up a strong fight and came in third.

DOTA 2 was another highly anticipated title, and the teams did not disappoint. In the end, it was Curro Krugersdorp who came out on top, with Curro Vanderbijlpark coming in a close second and Curro Krugersdorp’s junior team taking the third spot.

Finally, Overwatch saw some incredible gameplay, with Curro Krugersdorp dominating the competition and taking both the first and second spots. Curro Aurora put up a good fight and came in third.

eSports continues to grow in popularity around the world, and events such as this one demonstrates just how exciting and engaging, they can be. The success of this event shows that eSports is not just a passing trend, but a legitimate form of competition that is here to stay. It provides a platform for young people to showcase their skills, compete with others and form lasting friendships. It also provides an opportunity for schools to support and promote teamwork, leadership and discipline.
