Curro Vanderbijlpark performers selected for Team South Africa

Curro Vanderbijlpark’s talented Marimba Band, dancers, models, and one of their teachers delivered outstanding performances at the South African Championships of Performing Arts (SACOPA), held from 3 to 11 October. The national competition drew over 3 000 entries from across South Africa, celebrating talent in a wide range of performance disciplines.

Medals across music, dance, and performance

The Marimba Band performed six items and received silver medals for all six, along with the trophy for Best Small Instrumental Group – an achievement that highlights their teamwork and musical skill.

The dance group impressed judges with three performances, earning two silver medals and one gold for their group items. Their rhythm, precision, and energy stood out throughout the event.

One of Curro Vanderbijlpark’s teachers also participated, earning three bronze medals and one silver medal for her performances.

Heading to the world stage

Following their success at SACOPA, the Marimba Band, dancers, models, and teacher have been selected to join Team South Africa for the World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA), taking place in Los Angeles in July next year.

‘Curro Vanderbijlpark is immensely proud of all the performers for their achievements, hard work, and dedication,’ said the school. ‘They have not only showcased their talents but have also carried the school’s name with pride on a national stage.’

The school and participants are now seeking sponsorships and community support to make their international journey possible, as participation in this global event will require significant financial assistance.
