Curro Secunda hockey duo earn Mpumalanga provincial selection

Selection to Mpumalanga’s provincial hockey structures followed months of assessment for Curro Secunda learners Unarine Mudziri and Kourtney Klink, who secured places in the province’s U18B and U14B girls’ teams respectively.

Four rounds of provincial trials

The selection process involved multiple stages designed to assess players across a range of competitive situations.

Throughout the trials, players were evaluated on technical ability, tactical awareness, teamwork, work ethic and overall match performance. A final allocation trial followed the initial three rounds before teams were confirmed.

Curro Secunda noted that both learners ‘consistently demonstrated commitment, discipline, and high levels of performance’ across the process.

Competing at provincial level

Provincial hockey structures bring together players from schools across Mpumalanga, with selected teams competing in interprovincial tournaments against opposition from around South Africa.

These tournaments form part of broader pathways linked to South African hockey structures and expose players to higher-intensity competition and advanced tactical environments.

Selection after four rounds generally reflects sustained consistency rather than isolated performances, as players must repeatedly perform under pressure during match play and training sessions.

Unarine and Kourtney will represent Mpumalanga at tournaments taking place outside the province from the end of June through July.
