Curro Clash National LAN 2024

Curro is revolutionising education by embracing Esports, providing learners with opportunities to build crucial skills like teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. This year’s Curro Clash National LAN event brought together 470 learners from across South Africa at Curro Durbanville and Curro Krugersdorp from 2-5 October 2024. The event featured learners competing both online and in person across various age groups in games such as Minecraft Education, Rocket League, and Overwatch 2. Showcasing Curro’s young gaming talent, the event was streamed on Curro Esport Twitch and Curro Sport YouTube channels.

A growing Esports culture

Following the success of the inaugural Curro Clash LAN events in 2023, young gamers eagerly participated in this year’s competition. Sponsored by ACER for Education and supported by African Cyber Gaming League (ACGL), the event offered valuable prizes for the winning teams. Magdeleen de Kock, Curro’s Learning and Development Facilitator and Esports Project Lead, emphasised the benefits of Esports: ‘Events like the Curro Clash LAN encourage social interaction with peers, teamwork, communication, and strategic thinking. Beyond that, learners also benefit from improved hand-eye coordination, quick thinking, and enhanced problem-solving skills.’

Innovating digital learning

Curro’s commitment to making digital learning accessible and engaging places them at the forefront of education in South Africa. With plans for the 2025 competition already underway, learners are encouraged to refine their gaming skills and prepare for next year’s challenge.
