Jayden Bartman of Meridian Pinehurst joins Junior City Council

A place on the Junior City Council for 2026 has been awarded to Jayden Bartman, giving the Meridian Pinehurst learner the opportunity to lead a community project and engage with local civic initiatives.

The programme brings together learners from different schools to develop leadership skills while addressing issues within their communities.

Leading a community project

As part of his role, Jayden will design and lead a community project before presenting the results to fellow junior councillors, municipal representatives and parents.

‘Huge congratulations to Jayden Bartman in 10E5 on being selected to serve as a member of the Junior City Council for 2026,’ the school said.

Junior City Council programmes typically guide learners through leadership sessions, collaborative discussions and community initiatives that aim to create practical local impact.

Developing civic leadership

Participants in youth council programmes engage with topics related to community needs and public responsibility while gaining experience in planning, teamwork and public speaking.

Jayden’s project will form a central part of his participation in the programme and will conclude with a formal presentation of his work.

Schools often nominate learners who demonstrate initiative and interest in community involvement. Selection reflects leadership potential and willingness to participate in civic programmes.

Meridian Pinehurst expressed confidence in Jayden’s contribution to the council and his representation of the school.

‘Being chosen for this role reflects his passion for civic engagement,’ the school said. ‘We have no doubt that Jayden will represent himself and our school with excellence and integrity.’

Through the Junior City Council programme, Jayden will gain experience in leadership and community development while working alongside other young representatives in the city.
