Curro Create bursary awarded to Inascio Govender

Each year, Curro Create awards a R75,000 bursary to a learner from any Curro school who intends to pursue a creative degree at a recognised tertiary institution. The bursary supports young artists who have shown both exceptional ability and the commitment needed to turn their creativity into a career.

The 2025 Curro Create Bursary has been awarded to Inascio Govender, a Grade 12 learner from Curro Heritage House, whose work as a writer, actor, and dancer has earned recognition from mentors and adjudicators across multiple disciplines.

A creative force across disciplines

Inascio’s flash fiction work secured him a place in the Advanced Mentorship Programme (AMP), where he was mentored by award-winning author and playwright Philisiwe Twijnstra. Under her guidance, he produced a short story praised for its emotional depth, complex characters, and distinctive voice.

He has been a consistent and high-achieving participant in the Curro Arts Superhero (CAS) Performance programme, earning multiple Kryptonites and Black Ravens for his performances in Act It, Read It, and Move It. Earlier this year, he placed in the Top 10 of the #Acting4Film project, reinforcing his reputation as a versatile young performer.

Inascio has also been involved in #Straight2Camera, the Curro Create National Youth Theatre Festival, and various school productions, experiences that have shaped his growth as an artist and leader.

A ‘beautiful spirit’ in every sense

Beyond his creative achievements, Inascio has been recognised for his character and influence within his school community. He received the Aye Mathe Legacy Award – the ‘Mathelihle’ trophy, meaning beautiful spirit – and the 2025 Principal’s Award for representing Curro Heritage House with dignity, commitment, and care.

The school describes him as ‘an earnest and diligent cheerleader for the arts who encourages his whole community to be creative, celebrating everyone’s wins as much as his own’.

As he prepares for his tertiary studies in the arts, the bursary will support him as he continues exploring performance and storytelling on a broader stage.

  • Curro Create invites Grade 12 learners across all Curro schools who are passionate about pursuing creative degrees, including music, design, acting, dance, writing, photography, and filmmaking, to apply for the 2026 Curro Create Bursary when applications open next year.
