Curro Secunda Matric 2022

You had a bear celebrity with a special bear identity, who helped you forget your worries and your strife. Matric is an important and often stressful year, but it’s also a time to make memories that will last a lifetime.

Your school’s teddy shared in the experience!

Let’s hear it from your school leaders

Head leader: Sonwabile Makhanya

As I reflect on my last days of school, two terms describing my experience at this school come to mind – indelible and forever-evolving. Indelible because I got to create memories with new friends who became my second family. I attended school events to create a sense of unity and tradition. I made funny memories with teachers and support staff who parent us throughout each year and keep the school clean and welcoming. Curro Secunda felt like home; as Pliny the Elder once said: ‘Home is where the heart is.’

I had the space to evolve and build my character and my grades – and I was instilled with a high level of respect and neatness for the school and myself. However, I have had some downfalls too, but I learnt from them and made the best out of it. Thank you, teachers, for pushing and encouraging us to not give up until the wheels fall of. We are forever grateful.

Deputy-head leader: Bohlale Maenetja

A year full of surprises, upsets, and moments to never forget: 2022. In my experience as head leader of Curro Secunda, it has been a truly astonishing and phenomenal learning experience. I arrived at this school in 2015, feeling like the proverbial deer caught in the headlights; scared of the unknown. Still, I knew I wanted to do one thing – make this school my home. Fast-forward seven years and that is exactly what happened!

I learnt many lessons that will help me in my next life step. I would like to thank God Almighty, without whom I could never be in this position. I would also like to thank my teachers who made me want to push myself to the limit, my peers who encouraged and supported me, and my parents, for everything. They are the reason I am who I am.

A word of advice to future prospective leaders, stay disciplined and remember why you are at school – to learn and work towards your dreams and goals.  Richard Branson once said, ‘If your dreams don’t scare you, they are too small.’ Consistently working hard in all areas of your life will end up rewarding you sufficiently.

So, what did your teddy get up to?

Teddy inspired everyone to have fun and be silly sometimes!

The big box opening created much excitement!

Teddy knew when it was time to get serious and pose all upright and proud
