Curro Krugersdorp Matric 2022

You had a bear celebrity with a special bear identity, who helped you forget your worries and your strife. Matric is an important and often stressful year, but it’s also a time to make memories that will last a lifetime.

Your school’s teddy shared in the experience!

Let’s hear it from your head girl and boy

Head girl: Chloë Preston

This past year has been chaotic, but among the chaos great memories were made. From accompanying a few of my fellow leaders on the Grade 8 orientation camp –where we spent the final evening sleeping under the night’s sky – to waking up at the crack of dawn and (mostly) being on time for morning leadership duties.

I lived this past year with minimal regrets, apart from skipping out on sleep for the never-ending assignments and studying, the friendships formed over these past five years have been immensely rewarding. I was thrilled to become head girl, a leader, a matric entering my final year of high school. Now, suddenly it is almost over – the thrill, the excitement, the pressure and all the clichés. Now I’m in a fishbowl with all eyes on me. ‘What are you going to do next year?’, ‘Where are you going to study?’, ‘Have you been accepted anywhere?’, blah blah blah.

To the Class of 2023, matric is not revision or easy. If anyone ever says so, run in the opposite direction. But remember to rest well, groove and just have a good time. Most importantly, remember where and who you want to be and work to achieve your goals.

Head boy: Steven Engelsman

The year 2022 was one of shedding our masks and becoming the strong and happy human beings we were meant to be. During the pandemic we all hid our fears, our thoughts, our smiles and our facial expressions behind masks and this year we put our hearts back on our sleeves and lived our lives at 200 km/h every single day – and we had a blast with Shaun, our beloved teddy bear.

While we are all going to start preparing for prelims now (and yes, we are slightly terrified of the what ifs and maybes) I am confident that Curro Krugersdorp’s matrics of 2022 are going to leave deep footprints in the hearts of every person with whom we interact. Our school journey is ending but our life’s journey is only beginning.

To each and every one of you: try everything, laugh a lot and make good memories – this is your last opportunity in school to leave a legacy. I wish you all a road paved with God’s greatest blessings. Dream. Achieve. Explore.
