Cooper College Matric 2022

You had a bear celebrity with a special bear identity, who shared in all the joys of your final months in school. Here's what your teddy go up to!

Let’s hear it from your head girl and boy

Head girl: Chantelle Mogotlane

As I write this piece as a head girl of Cooper College, I feel proud and honoured that I got the opportunity to lead, encourage and most importantly, listen to the younger upcoming leaders. On the day that the head boy and girl was announced, I remember seeing my mom smiling and being proud of her daughter for achieving her goals. This is our very first group of Grade 12s and I am forever grateful to share this journey of leadership with them.

Cooper College has so many learners who have big potential and by hearing and guiding them, they can earn more than they believe. I have been at Cooper College for a long time, and I can truly say that the school has contributed to and developed the kind of leader that I am today. As the year is coming to an end, I’d like to wish all the matriculants good luck with their prelims, as well as their finals. It is almost time to spread our wings and find independence in different ways.

Head boy: Khulani Maluleke

Hurry up and live’ – a short but sweet quote by Roman philosopher, Lucius Seneca, I randomly encountered while surfing the net. I'd probably run into hundreds of ambiguous and vague quotes over the years but this one was different. It stuck. Lately I've been finding it pretty easy to just turn on autopilot mode and coast through life. Every new day was like every other day. Eat, school, socialise, sleep, repeat. Everything I did I did without fully being conscious of it. That’s how I'd spend the majority of my time ... just retreating to predefined behaviours or activities I had done many times before.

The reason Seneca's words probably stuck was because of how much I had needed them. Time was ticking and there was so much to do, so much to achieve. What ‘hurry up and live’ meant to me was that you can't sit idly by and be a passenger in your own body, you have to hurry up and take conscious control of what you want to do and what you want to achieve. You have to hurry up and start on that project, or start that hobby, try that new thing, or talk to that new person, you have to hurry up and go live the life you want. So, with that being said I hope you all find success with all you set out to do, best of luck ;)
