IEB (Independent Examinations Board)  

Curro Schools and several Curro Select Schools offer an enhanced curriculum that prepares learners to write the IEB examination at the end of Grade 12, in accordance with legislation and Umalusi directives. While Curro learners still follow the CAPS curriculum, they are prepared for the more challenging questioning method of these examinations, which uniquely prepares learners for the difficulty level of tertiary education institutions.

NSC (National Senior Certificate)  

Curro Academy Schools, Meridian Schools, and a few other selected schools prepare learners for the NSC examinations at the end of Grade 12, with quality education. Our enhanced curriculum approach provides Curro learners with a head start in life by exposing them to technology in the classroom and specialised subjects such as Information Technology.

NCV (National Certificate Vocational)  

Curro has five private college campuses that offer NCV programmes, which allow learners to specialise in their chosen career directly after Grade 9. These programmes (Levels 2 to 4) incorporate high academic standards as well as experience in an actual workplace. This combination empowers learners to go to university, enter the workforce, or start their own venture! 

 

 

Cambridge Assessment International Education  

Five Curro Select schools offer the Cambridge curriculum throughout school, or during their high school phase. The Cambridge pathway has four stages that lead seamlessly from primary to secondary and pre-university years. Each stage builds on the learners’ development from the previous one and offers a wide range of subjects with an emphasis on English, Mathematics and Science. A level and AS level are completed in stage 4. AS level is completed at the end of year 12, and A level is completed a year after ‘matric’, which is the equivalent to a first-year Cambridge University course.

Preschool programme: A focus on learning through play

Children learn by discovering the world around them – and anything learned while playing at a young age is remembered much faster and more efficiently compared to anything learned while sitting at a table in a forced learning environment.

As part of the Curro school group, our children enjoy a programme that supports their physical, social, emotional and cognitive well-being. This approach to early childhood development is built around learning and developing through play rather than strict milestones. This means that children feel supported and encouraged instead of anxious and pressured to develop at someone else’s pace.

Learning during childhood starts with babies exploring their touch and taste sense while playing with squishy pasta, jelly, and other texture-rich objects. Later on, young toddlers learn the basics of mathematics by playing with building blocks, balls, manipulating objects around their bodies, and other ways. Older toddlers learn the basics of writing and reading with comprehension by drawing, painting, singing, and generally discovering objects that centre around a specific theme.

Here are some examples of the areas that are developed by learning through play:

• Mathematics: shapes, size, time, counting, adding, subtracting
• Communication: speech, listening, reading, understanding
• Creativity: drawing, painting, correct pinching of a pencil, dancing
• Physical well-being: balance, movement, safety
• Identity and belonging: personality, morals, caring, friendship, sharing
