HeronBridge College in Fourways accommodates learners from 2 years (turning 3) to Grade 12, at the end of which they write the IEB examination. Built on a foundation of Christian principles, our heart-led and holistic approach to education – which even includes specialised subjects such as Engineering Graphics and Design and Robotics – encourages learners to grow into well-rounded, happy and confident individuals who are curious about the world around them. We even offer school scholarships to learners who excel in certain areas. We also form part of the Curro school group, which means that you can enjoy everything that is expected at an independent school.

What do we offer?

We provide an education of the highest quality, developing each learner academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually. Our controlled class sizes ensure the fundamental ethos of care and concern for each individual. At the end of Grade 12 learners write the IEB examinations, although our enhanced curriculum takes a wider world-readiness approach to ensure that learners are prepared for the 21st-century world they will enter. Learners further benefit from specialised subjects such as Further Studies Mathematics and having isiZulu as an additional language option.

We also have aftercare from pre-preparatory to senior prep phase, an early drop-off time, school transport and a boarding school for boys from Grade 8.

Pre-preparatory phase (from 2 years to Grade R)

We believe that play is the essence of creativity and children learn by discovering the world around them. Our play-based programme therefore develops the whole child so that they are physically, emotionally, cognitively, socially and spiritually ready to face and meet the challenges of formal learning later on. We have a fantasy village consisting of real-life versions of a restaurant, fire station, hospital, grocery store, and classroom that facilitates learning through creativity and exploration. As our foundation is built on Christian principles, our daily programme even includes time for devotion and prayer where children learn about God’s love for them and their friends.

Preparatory phase (Grade 1 to Grade 7)

Our school is a place where learners develop a love of learning through exploration, collaboration, and actively participating in the learning process. Our preparatory phase starts by guiding learners in small class sizes to grow used to formal learning. We then gradually develop their skills and knowledge in basic areas such as language (comprehension, speaking and listening), mathematics (counting and understanding numbers), and creative problem-solving in an environment where they enjoy coming to school.

Teaching takes place in English, but learners benefit from having Afrikaans and isiZulu as additional language options.

High school (Grade 8 to Grade 12)

Our learners enter high school as teenagers and leave as young adults who are ready for the challenges of life. We believe it’s our privilege to guide them through this transitional period and to share in their joys as they firmly establish themselves. Our enhanced curriculum prepares learners for the IEB examination at the end of Grade 12 – and our academic results speak for themselves. Furthermore, our high school learners are actively involved in outreach and ministry programmes, both on and off campus. This further provides them with a well-rounded, holistic education.

Our fact sheet explores all the subjects you can enjoy with us!

School scholarships

As part of the Curro school group, we value excellence and dedication shown by learners in areas which they shine. Such areas include academics, sport, culture, community initiatives or all-rounders. Applications for a school scholarship are open to prospective as well as enrolled learners. When applying for a scholarship in Grade 8, learners write two scholarship exams and are invited to an open day shortly after. Get in touch with us to find out more about our scholarships and the application process.

Outreach programmes

As a school based on Christian principles, we seek to encourage participation in activities that facilitate growth in all areas of life. Therefore, we have several community-driven initiatives as well as subjects such as Worldview Studies. Our outreach programmes are well recognised in neighbouring communities, as we have been serving them with initiatives such as teacher training, school makeovers, and food security through Rise Against Hunger. We have an on-site community store, Bridge of Hope, which supports our staff and direct community through the provision of selected food items, toiletries, clothing, and household items.
