Holiday care

We are open during school holidays and run a full holiday-care programme at no additional cost. Regular activities continue, although we may arrange some extra fun activities during this time. We are closed only for a specified period during December and January.

Teachers have assistants

As a Curro Castle, our classes are divided by age group and each teacher has one or more assistants, depending on the group and the number of children in the class. There are often more assistants for the younger ones, all included in the affordable school fees, to ensure that each child in our small class sizes get the necessary love and attention.

On-site therapists and registered nurse

We have a registered nurse on site during the school day to take care of our children as part of our affordable school fees. We also have on-site therapy rooms in which registered therapists work with learners – in collaboration with teachers and parents – to ensure a holistic approach to children’s development. We also have a working relationship with the Petervale Children’s therapy centre who often use our therapy rooms.

Separated areas based on age group

Our nursery school is divided into three areas, to ensure the safety and appropriate play areas of our children. Our baby hub accommodates children from 3 to 24 months and is separated from older age groups as their daily routines and caring needs are different. Older children are accommodated in the south and north wings our the school, with particular focus on school-readiness preparation for our Grade R learners.

On-site kitchen

As a Curro Castle, our on-site kitchen is fully equipped to prepare well-balanced meals during the day – breakfast, lunch, and two snacks per day – for all age groups at our nursery school. All meals are prepared with fresh ingredients just before being delivered to the classrooms. These meals are also included in our affordable school fees and we carefully accommodate all allergy and religious dietary requirements – including Halaal meals upon request. This is part of how we cater to individual needs is possible due to our small class sizes.

In addition, we also bake cupcakes for children’s birthdays, which are enjoyed during a birthday ring – children decorate their own cupcake and then enjoy them together. Parents may also order party packs at an additional cost.

Indoor and outdoor play areas

Children learn by interacting with the world around them. As a Curro Castle, our classrooms themselves are considered to be inanimate teachers of sorts. They are designed to allow maximum room for play and movement while being stimulating on a visual and tactile level. Our play areas are set up to encourage wonder and curiosity to foster child-directed play which is facilitiated by a teacher. An additional indoor play area allows a change in play space on days that the weather doesn’t allow outdoor play.

Our outdoor play areas include jungle gyms, and other play spaces that support free-play and curiosity. These areas are designed to encourage physical play, and generally have synthetic grass to prevent allergic reactions. Children are taken outside to play on days with moderate weather conditions to prevent excessive cold or sunburn. Additional safety measures are taken on sunny days.
