Curro Academy Riverside has a high school in Riverside View, Fourways that provides high-quality education for learners from Grade 8 to Grade 12. Our enhanced curriculum empowers learners in our limited class sizes with 21st-century skills and knowledge to grow into self-confident individuals and to reach their personal, educational and eventual workplace goals. Our dedicated teachers and well-rounded approach prepare learners for the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations at the end of Grade 12.

Senior phase: Grade 8 and Grade 9 

In these grades, we guide learners to adjust to a greater workload of higher intensity. Our affordable, enhanced curriculum places great emphasis on problem-solving and individual thinking. With dedicated teachers, we place great emphasis on problem-solving and individual thinking, learners gain 21st-century skills in subjects such as Science and Technology. Learners in our limited class sizes also receive guidance when choosing their elective subjects at the end of Grade 9 and further benefit from having Afrikaans and isiZulu as additional language options. 

FET phase: Grade 10 to Grade 12 

This phase prepares learners for the NSC examinations written at the end of Grade 12. However, we emphasise a greater world-readiness rather than a purely examination-driven approach. Our learners are taught to be independent and innovative in their approach to problem-solving and dealing with current and global issues. As a Curro Academy school, we encourage our learners to express their ideas and take charge of their own lives – all highly-valued 21st-century skills. Learners in our limited class sizes further benefit from having Afrikaans and isiZulu as additional language options, and 21st-century learning is implemented in subjects such as Economic and Management Sciences and Business Studies.

A wider subject choice

High-school learners can now extend their subject choices beyond what is offered at our school. Learners can choose from a wide range of subjects, and classes will take place during the school day in the form of live lessons with teachers. These subjects can be seen as an extension of our enhanced curriculum from which our learners already benefit. What is meant by an enhanced curriculum? 

As a Curro Academy school, we are committed to providing learners in our limited class sizes with an excellent education. Therefore, our approach to teaching the national CAPS curriculum is based on project-based learning and self-discovery. This approach allows our learners to interact with the learned material or discover the core concepts themselves. Regular assessments and tests still take place, but we focus on ensuring that learners can use their intellectual abilities to discover the material and make it real to them in some way. This further provides them with 21st-century skills such as problem-solving, research, and self-initiated proactive action.
