Colton’s standout performance in individual and team events
At the Interprovincial Chess Tournament from 10–13 July at Fort Hare University in Alice, Colton represented the U12B team – despite still being U10. He scored 3.5 out of 4 games, helping his team finish in second place with another silver medal.
Colton also excelled in the individual section, placing 6th overall in his age group after winning four of six matches. His performance secured him a place in the Top 8 for the prestigious EC Closed Tournament, to be held from 5 to 9 September at the Boardwalk. Entry to this event is by invitation only and recognises players with strong rankings and consistent form.
These achievements reflect the growing strength of chess across Curro schools—and the individual drive of young players rising through provincial ranks with discipline and sharp thinking.
