World-class tennis comes to Stellenbosch this December
26 November 2024Curro and Tennis South Africa (TSA) are bringing two International Tennis Federation (ITF) Men’s and Women’s tournaments to the Van der Stel courts in Stellenbosch this December. These events, part of the Curro Centre Court Series, continue the success of the September series held at Curro Hillcrest.

International talent on show
The tournaments, which are scheduled from 1 to 15 December 2024, are part of the ITF Men15 (M15) and Women15 (W15) series. Each category offers $15 000 in weekly prize money, creating a total pool of $60 000. The series provides an opportunity for up-and-coming international players to improve their rankings while competing at a high level.
‘These tournaments allow South African players to compete against global talent, many of whom are based overseas. It’s a unique chance to experience international tennis right here at home,’ said Cindy van der Merwe, Portfolio Manager at Curro Sport.

South African stars in action
The tournaments feature a strong contingent of South African players, including Davis Cup representatives Alec Beckley, Leo Matthysen, and Phillip Henning. The latter was the first-week winner of the Curro Hillcrest series, so he will be a player to watch. Adding excitement to the men’s draw is Leo Borg, son of Swedish tennis legend Bjorn Borg, and teenage sensation Connor Doig, South Africa’s top junior player ranked 112 in the world.
Kris van Wyk, South Africa’s top-ranked player and a finalist in the Hillcrest series, will also aim to claim victory on home soil.
Spotlight on women’s tennis
In the women’s draw, South Africa’s hopes rest on Isabella Kruger and rising star Jahnie van Zyl. Isabella, who had a mixed performance at Hillcrest, won the second week’s title but faced challenges in the other rounds. Meanwhile, Jahnie has earned admiration for her resilience, consistently advancing deep into international draws. She has been selected for the prestigious Grand Slam Player Development Programme in 2023, so she is sure to have a bright future.

An unmissable opportunity
‘This is a rare chance for tennis enthusiasts to witness international talent in South Africa,’ added Cindy. ‘The standard is exceptional, and spectators will be treated to top-tier tennis action’
Spectators are encouraged to join courtside at Stellenbosch to support these incredible athletes and enjoy live tennis at its finest.
