Unako Ntanjana to represent Eastern Province at U16 Grant Khomo Week

Unako Ntanjana, a talented rugby player celebrated by Curro Westbrook, has been selected to represent Eastern Province at the 2025 U16 Grant Khomo Week in Pretoria. As part of SA Rugby’s prestigious FNB Youth Weeks series, the tournament plays a vital role in spotlighting the next generation of South African rugby talent.

Provincial honour and national spotlight

Unako, wearing jersey 17, is one of 20 players named in the Eastern Province squad drawn from 11 schools across the region. He joins the team in facing top-level provincial opponents, with their first match scheduled for 1 July 2025 against South Western Districts on the Moshate Field at St Alban’s College, Pretoria. The full tournament runs from 30 June to 4 July and will be broadcast on the SuperSport Schools app.

A proven development platform

The Grant Khomo Week is considered a crucial pathway toward elite rugby, with many former participants progressing to the Craven Week and eventually the Springboks. SA Rugby President Mark Alexander described it as offering ‘exposure, mentorship, and a pathway to the Craven Week and Springbok selection’.

School and community support

Unako’s selection has been met with excitement on Curro Westbrook’s social media channels. In a statement, the school said: ‘We are incredibly proud to announce that one of our own, Unako Ntanjana, has been selected to represent the Eastern Province at the prestigious U/16 Grant Khomo Week, taking place in Pretoria during the upcoming school holiday.’

The school added: ‘We wish Unako all the best as he takes the field in Eastern Cape colours and competes against some of the country’s finest young players. His achievement serves as an inspiration to all our aspiring sports men and is a proud moment for the entire school community.’

Eyes on the future

While the matches ahead will demand focus and determination, the long-term potential is clear. ‘We can’t wait to see him wear the Green and Gold for the Springboks in the 2031 Rugby World Cup!’ the school shared.
