St Dominics Newcastle learner earns Protea colours
20 October 2025St Dominics Newcastle celebrates Grade 11 learner Abigale Meineke, who has been chosen to represent South Africa at the World Championships in Mossel Bay this December after earning Protea Colours in Modern Pentathlon.

A performance worthy of national selection
Abigale competed for Team KwaZulu-Natal at the South African Championships in Nelspruit earlier in October. Her performance in the biathle (an event that combines running, swimming, and running) earned her selection and national colours. She now joins other top athletes to represent her province and country on the world stage.
Balancing rigorous training with academics, Abigale has shown resilience, versatility, and focus. Her achievements reflect how learners can excel in both school and sport when they commit to consistent effort and smart preparation.
Recognition and pride
‘Abigale’s dedication and perseverance are a true reflection of the values we uphold at St Dominics Newcastle,’ said Shirley McGhee, Executive Head. ‘Her achievement demonstrates what can be accomplished through hard work, commitment, and passion.’ The school and community have celebrated her milestone widely, sharing her journey and success with pride.
Mossel Bay will host the 2025 UIPM Biathle/Triathle World Championships from 8 to 11 December, confirming that elite athletes across biathle and triathle will compete for global titles. The event has drawn attention for its inclusive format and the variety of age categories.
