Seven Curro Mossel Bay learners selected for Eden Hockey squads
09 July 2025Seven Curro Mossel Bay high school learners will represent the Eden District in regional and national hockey events this July, with several stepping into key leadership roles. Their selection highlights the depth of hockey talent at the school and the opportunities created through district-level participation.
Strong representation in U/14 IPT and Regional teams
The following learners have earned selection for Eden Hockey teams in the U/14 age group:
- Raphael Baxter and Damon Busa will play in the U/14 Regional Team.
- Noah Josephs, Ruth Geza, and Boitumelo Maloka join the U/14 Inter-Provincial Tournament (IPT) Team.
- Phawu Tyatya has been named captain of the U/14 IPT Team.
- Kasandra van Alphen will serve as vice-captain of the same squad.
In the primary school category, Sammy de Moor will captain the U/13 Regional Team, further strengthening Curro Mossel Bay’s presence across age groups.

National stage awaits
The U/14 IPT Girls Team, led by Phawu and Kasandra, will represent Eden Hockey at the SASHOC Nationals in Johannesburg from 3 to 7 July. This event brings together top provincial talent as part of South Africa’s national schools hockey development programme, with 48 teams competing across both genders.

Coaching and school support
The school’s staff are also directly involved in the provincial coaching structure. Carla Smit will manage the U/13 IPT Team, and Arne de Beer is head coach for the U/14 Regional Team. Their involvement reflects ongoing support for structured youth development in the sport.
Eden District Hockey has a strong regional reputation, regularly finishing top of local leagues and progressing to national events. The district’s participation in SASHOC Nationals affirms the calibre of its training and selection.
