Former champion excited to introduce riders to MTB race

Phillimon Sebona, one of the country’s top marathon mountain bikers and a former Fedhealth Magalies Monster MTB Classic Champion, will introduce two young academy riders to the excitement of the Magalies Monster on Saturday, August 28.

Phillimon, the 2017 Fedhealth Magalies Monster MTB Classic Champion, is now the manager and ambassador of the C2R team. C2R is an initiative supported by Curro that aims to promote cycling as a medium for family cohesion, relaxation, fun, and a possible career choice for those truly interested in becoming professional athletes.

“The Fedhealth Magalies Monster MTB Classic is a one-day event that has all the best climbs to test your fitness, and downhills to test your skill,” said Phillimon.

“Although the Monster Climb is the toughest part of this event, the open roads are also unforgiving as you need to pedal more to get closer to the finish line. The route is tops. My goal will be to give my best and try to win. My advice to first-time entrants is to pace yourself. It’s a long way to the finish.

“I am very excited to introduce two academy riders, Albert Mothogoane and Botshelo Makolane to the Fedhealth Magalies Monster MTB Classic this year. Belonging to the Lion’s Club Academy in Mamelodi, both riders will toe the line in the Half Marathon (+-33km race). My role is to mentor the riders while assisting the academy with a training plan. I selected Albert and Botshelo because their mountain biking skill is great and because they have proven to be dedicated and focused on our plan. They also never give up. I am excited to see how they do at the event and can’t wait to receive their feedback afterwards.”
