Esports thriving at Curro Vanderbijlpark

Esports have quickly become one of the fastest-growing sporting codes at Curro Vanderbijlpark, evolving from a small primary school initiative into a thriving competitive community. In just three years, the programme has grown from 10 participants to 75 active primary school players, which is a sign of how strongly it has captured learners’ enthusiasm.

 

 

From small beginnings to national recognition

The school’s Esports journey began modestly, but with the guidance and vision of its coaches, it has developed into a structured, high-performing programme. Learners now compete regularly across a range of platforms and tournaments, gaining experience and confidence through every match.

In 2025, the school achieved outstanding results across multiple Esports competitions:

  • ACGL Tournaments: Players earned 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishes in several events.
  • EAFC25, Rocket League, and Minecraft: Learners placed 2nd in EAFC25, 2nd in Rocket League, and 4th in Minecraft.
  • Curro Minecraft PvP League: The U11 A team, made up of new players, finished 2nd in their league, while the U13 A team won the Premier League with a perfect record.
  • Curro National LAN Event: The U13 A team represented Curro Vanderbijlpark against top schools nationwide, placing 3rd overall.

‘Our coaches have worked tirelessly to guide and develop the players’ skills, creating an environment where teamwork, strategy, and sportsmanship flourish,’ said the school. ‘The results of this dedication have been extraordinary.’

Esports continues to grow worldwide, promoting teamwork, critical thinking, and leadership. For Curro Vanderbijlpark learners, it has also opened pathways to future opportunities in technology, design, and media.
