Curro Wilgeheuwel’s under 19 boys secure third consecutive ISSL title
02 September 2024Curro Wilgeheuwel continues to dominate the Independent Schools Soccer League (ISSL), achieving their third consecutive U19 title. The first team, led by coach Sibabalwa Ndzamela, Johannes Manoko, and Head of Sport Tshepiso More, recently secured the championship with an impressive 9-1 victory over Crawford Sandton.
The school’s journey to success began in 2018, with their first major breakthrough in 2019 when the U15 team, under the guidance of Tshepiso More, won the ISSL U15 trophy. This same group of players continued their success by winning the U19 title in 2022. The winning streak continued this year with a new wave of first-team players who successfully defended their title.
A legacy of success and teamwork
Tshepiso explains, ‘The 1st team boys' soccer success in winning the U19 division of the Independent Schools League Cup three years in a row is the result of a comprehensive and collaborative approach within our sports department. Continuity has been key, even with three different head coaches over the past three years, as they have all collaborated closely with each other. The surrounding coaching staff, led by me, Johannes, and Malefetsane, has remained the same, providing stability.’

Continuous growth and development
Tshepiso also emphasised the importance of growth within the coaching team. ‘Our coaches are committed to continuous learning, attending numerous coaching workshops, earning certifications and badges, and staying informed about the latest in the game. This dynamic process keeps our coaching staff sharp and well-prepared, contributing to the ongoing success of our 1st team.’
Each player who’s contributed to this purple patch has, of course, also shown relentless drive. Be it coach or player, it’s safe to say that whatever they’re doing on the pitch is working – and maybe we should all start taking notes!
