Curro Wilgeheuwel girls claim sixth major title in four years

Three successive titles in one competition would already mark a sustained run. Curro Wilgeheuwel’s senior girls have now done it twice.

The school’s Open Girls football team claimed its third consecutive Independent Schools Soccer League (ISSL) championship with a 5–0 victory over Trinityhouse Glenvista at Trezona Park.

The result adds another three-title sequence to a group that had already won the Waterstone College competition in 2023, 2024 and 2025.

For Curro Wilgeheuwel, the latest final therefore sits within several seasons of success for its senior girls rather than standing alone.

Another title secured at Trezona Park

Curro Wilgeheuwel entered the 2026 ISSL final seeking a third straight championship and finished the job with five unanswered goals against Trinityhouse Glenvista.

The school credited the players and coaching staff, along with the families and supporters who had backed the team through the season.

The victory means the Open Girls have now won three successive ISSL titles. Their recent record also stretches into another major school football competition.

Three years at Waterstone

In 2024, Curro Wilgeheuwel successfully defended the Waterstone College Soccer Cup title it had won the previous year.

The team went unbeaten through all seven matches of the 2024 tournament. Media reports at the time identified Malefetsane Mahlatse as their coach and reported that the team had prepared specifically to retain the trophy.

They returned in 2025 and completed a third consecutive Waterstone championship.

That campaign included a tense semi-final against Curro Protea Glen. The sides drew 1–1 before Wilgeheuwel won the penalty shootout 4–3. A 2–1 victory over Meridian Cosmo City in the final completed the three-year run.

The 2026 ISSL championship now gives the girls a second sequence of three successive titles, achieved across two separate competitions.

Part of a strong football period at Wilgeheuwel

The girls’ run forms part of a wider period of senior football success at the school.

Curro Wilgeheuwel’s U19 boys had already established their own run in the ISSL. They won a third consecutive championship in 2024 after beating Crawford Sandton 9–1 in the final, and extended that sequence to four successive titles in 2025.

The girls have now added another three-peat to the school’s ISSL record.

Their latest title arrived emphatically. A 5–0 final at Trezona Park closed another ISSL campaign with Curro Wilgeheuwel on top and added a sixth championship across the girls’ two three-title runs since 2023.
