Curro Serengeti learner rides Cycle Tour as youngest solo cyclist
10 March 2026The Cape Town Cycle Tour welcomed one of its youngest competitors this year when Jordan Smith, a Grade 10 learner, completed the race as the youngest solo rider in the field on 8 March.
The event draws tens of thousands of cyclists each year and challenges riders with a demanding route around the Cape Peninsula. Participation places young athletes alongside experienced amateur and elite riders from South Africa and abroad.

Competing in a world-class race
The Cape Town Cycle Tour attracts roughly 30 000 cyclists annually and traditionally covers a 109 km route through Cape Town and along the coastline, including climbs and exposed coastal sections.
Curro Serengeti confirmed Jordan’s participation and highlighted his selection for the event.
‘Curro Serengeti is proud to acknowledge Jordan, who has recently been sponsored by a local bike shop with two new competitive bicycles, as well as by a major Cape Town–based company,’ the school said.
These partnerships supported Jordan’s preparation and travel for the race.
Support and sponsorship
The school also noted that the sponsorship includes two competitive bicycles supplied by a local bike shop, together with additional support from a Cape Town-based company.
‘Jordan has been selected to travel to Cape Town to participate as the youngest solo rider in the Cape Town Cycle Tour on 8 March,’ the school added.
Cyclists in the race navigate the full route independently, which requires endurance, pacing and race awareness across the entire course.
Opportunity beyond the race
Curro Serengeti indicated that a strong performance could open further opportunities for the young cyclist.
‘Should Jordan complete the event in an excellent time, he will have the remarkable opportunity to be flown to France to ride for Team South Africa,’ they said.
