Curro Parkdene gymnast claims overall first at Klerksdorp competition

Bajabulile Nobathana from Curro Parkdene delivered a strong all-round display in Klerksdorp, earning first place overall in her category at a recent Curro gymnastics competition.

All-round performance across apparatus

The event brought together gymnasts from Curro schools to compete across the four standard artistic gymnastics disciplines: vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor routine. Each apparatus places different demands on athletes, combining power, balance, control and execution.

Bajabulile delivered consistent routines across all four, with the school noting that she ‘performed exceptionally well, showing confidence and precision throughout her routines’.

Her results included multiple medals and trophies, alongside a first-place overall finish in the second round, indicating the highest combined score across events in her category.

Judging and competition format

Gymnastics competitions at this level assess athletes on difficulty, execution and artistry. Scores reflect both technical accuracy and the ability to perform complex skills cleanly under pressure.

Performing across all apparatus requires steady execution from start to finish, so Bajabulile’s overall result points to balanced performance rather than reliance on a single routine.

Building through competition

Events such as this form part of Curro’s internal competition structure, where gymnasts gain experience in formal judging environments and track their progress against peers.

They also contribute to broader development pathways aligned with Gymnastics South Africa, where athletes who meet required standards can progress to regional and provincial competitions.

Bajabulile’s performance reflects steady development through structured training and competition exposure. As the school noted, her results ‘earned her outstanding results, including a 1st place overall finish in the second round, as well as multiple medals and trophies’.
