Curro Midrand Sagewood: Zion Chiweshe wins Podium silver, Rising Stars after record jump
01 May 2026A season of consistent high jump performances has seen Curro Midrand Sagewood learner Zion Chiweshe secure a podium finish at a national schools event and earn selection to the Curro National Rising Stars Team.

Record jump sets the tone
Zion, a Grade 12 learner, established his standing in September last year when he cleared 1.9 metres to set a new Inter-Curro high jump record. The mark placed him among strong school-level performers in South Africa and pointed towards national competition.
Podium finish at Curro Podium Grand Finale
He carried that form into 2026 at the Curro Podium Grand Finale, where leading athletes from across the country compete. The event is broadcast on SuperSport and draws top performers from Curro campuses nationwide.
Competing in the Boys U19 high jump, Zion cleared 1.85 metres to finish second. The result secured his place in the Curro National Rising Stars Team, which recognises athletes based on performance and potential at the event.
Consistency across attempts
High jump at this level depends on approach speed, timing and technique. Zion’s results reflect consistency across attempts, a key factor in securing podium finishes.
‘Zion’s journey is a testament to what can be achieved through focus, hard work, and belief,’ said Head of Sport Jaco Blom. ‘He inspires all our athletes to aim higher, push further, and embrace every opportunity with courage and passion.’
Leadership and progression
As one might expect, Zion’s role extends beyond competition. He contributes within the team environment and supports fellow athletes during training and events.
‘At Curro Midrand Sagewood, we take immense pride in the achievements of our learners, and this edition shines the spotlight on one exceptional athlete,’ the school noted.
Zion proves that label with every performance.
